Summer is almost here! Thank goodness. It's been a busy spring. Too busy. I've been kept away from completing my newest novel by hundreds of distractions. Some annoying, and some that I couldn't ignore if I wanted to. Like the upcoming birth of my first grandchild, Gavin Everett Thompson, due to arrive June 8th, 2008. And not a day too soon! At 59, I feel I'm due. Finally, that sweet little angel of mine to which I was a personal slave for two decades is going to find out just exactly what it's like to have them threaten to turn you over to child protective services and tell all your secrets to their friends! Yes, nothing can vindicate a parent like a grandchild.

And then there's the awesome pleasure of seeing your children discover the love, joy, and sense of purpose that comes with having a child of their own. Oh, how very jealous I am. But I doubt I could afford to raise a child nowadays anyway.

And with that behind me, I'm going to get back to focusing on the final revision of The Code Breaker's Wife. That's my new baby. And watching it interact with others, seeing it grow, and having the guy that bags my groceries at Piggly Wiggly raving about it and the lady that does my hair tell me how much better she could have done it, will be such fun. And then I'll go home to a quiet home where the sounds of little feet padding around the house belong to one of our four cats or the dog, who will all join us as I cuddle on the couch with my wife Dorrie and have a glass of warm milk before getting a good night's sleep.
