After watching the television series "John Adams", I was struck by the difference between our so-called "founding fathers" and our current crop of politicians. Adams, Jefferson, Washington and so many others were committed to our country and the establishment of a representative form of government. Certainly, all were products of their time and all had their blemishes, but their commitment to our fledgling nation and to each other was remarkable.
Our current politicians - and there are damned few statesmen - seem to be nothing more then shallow opportunists interested solely in promoting their own self-interests and their political party. It's purely a matter of "them vs us" and nothing the opposing party does can possibly have any merit.
The three lightweights running for the highest office in the land are just that - lightweights. Truly qualified individuals - both male and female - have no interest in the political circus but are busy building business and industrial empires, researching in the fields of electronics, medicine, arts and other sciences, etc. We're left with the dregs who are nothing more than shills for the lobbyists actually running our country from day to day.
A jaundiced view? Probably. But show me the politician who is worthy of this great nation and I'll vote for him/her. I see few, if any, on the horizon, and it's a sad commentary on the state of the nation.
