I have been having problems with tiny ants all over my kitchen counter. I try not to use bug spray in the kitchen so I tried two green methods one was spreading cinnamon which they avoided then I placed bay leaves around which they ignored. Finally, I used the bud spray.
The monthly pest control guy came today and told me that when I used the bug spray it put them in a defense mode so rather that keep their queens (yes, he said that they have multiple queens) together they separated them to assure survival. He wiped the counters down with a substance that leaves a residue and the other ants take it back to the nest/hive. He also told me to mix boric acid and jelly/jam and leave it out because it would attrack them then kill them.
BUT that's not why I'm writing this. According to the bug guy, the ants that I see are out collecting food and those who don't make it back are expendable because they are old. Can you believe that? Even in the insect world maturity and longetivity are not valued as it should be.

Thanks for the tip. How tiny were the ants? Were they the crazy black ants or the little ones often called "sugar ants"? A co-worker told me to lay Downey fabric sheets in the areas where the ants appear. Something in the dryer sheets kills them. Strange but true.

Gee, I had better not come back to the house without completing Mrs. Rox Fan's food shopping list!
