Last night I had an encounter with Murphy in the laundromat. One of the blessings of urban living which does not look urban (Atlanta looks like Syrcuse, New York, a big, sprawly, sunny, Southern, green city.) living is a 24/7 laundromat within a couple of miles of the apartment. This meant that at 10:30pm last night, I was pulling a bag of dirty shrits down to the laundromat and anticipating a long night, reading Zola on the sidewalk outside. The television blares in the laundromat at night, making it an uninviting place.
The laundromat was uncrowded and I managed to get everything in uneventfully. I transferred my load to the driers and then the fun started. After an hour, I still had partially wet shirts. I wished the staff in the Spin Cycle would maintain their machines better. I switched machines, and my stuff dried half an hour later. It was nearly 2am by this time. I packed my laundry and headed back down the road and found myself walking beneath an intermittent rain. Oh well...the weather forecast said it was not supposed to rain until this afternoon. No one told the actual weather.
I found five partially wet shirts when I got home. I put them in the kitchen on the wooden clothes dryer and folded the rest, washed my hair, ate an orange and crawled into bed around 4am. Two hours later, I got up for work. It is a good thing I don't belive in sleep.
It is an even better thing that I believe in caffeine. I'm not exactly wired, but I'm not falling asleep either. Dazed is the mood of the moment. That is fine with me.
By the way, thanks for not posting your miracle cures for eczema in the comments area. I went to the dermatologist yesterday and got cortisone cream and antihistamine. I'm to avoid housework as much as possible and wash dishes with a brush. I took my first dose of antihistmaine last night and within hours noticed a difference. I also got in two doses of cortisone cream. It is great not to feel the overwhelming urge to do a very efficient scratch job. My hands are still raw in places and hurt a bit from all the scratching I did previously. My hands feel much better than they look which is easy since they look horrendous, but itching is so great, WHEN IT STOPS!.
