Well, if anyone has noticed the new photographs that have shown up, they would see that DD2 and I have been traveling. She is a high school junior and we are 'looking at colleges'.
Why she had to 'look' at colleges that are as far away as possible and still stay on the same CONTINENT - well, you'd have to ask her.
But (argument went) we took DD1 to visit colleges, so DD2 gets a college visit trip also. (never mind that DD1 visited colleges WITHIN ONE DAY'S DRIVE).
But, in fact, we had a fine time, through rain and wind and canceled flights and delays and wet luggage, and LOST luggage... the trip from Boston to Virginia deserves it's own blog all by itself, but I shall spare you.
Boston is a neat city to visit - I had been there once before, so I had a good idea of where to stay and what to do. We did get at least ONE fine sunny day, which we spent walking around the old North End, and through the Common, and around the Back Bay. We also visited three colleges in the Boston area before flying south to Virginia, to visit college number 4, Washington and Lee.
(They are all very nice schools, and if she applies and gets accepted to any one of them, that would be fine - assuming she also gets some major financial aid)
Sharing a room, and traveling across country with DD2 was less difficult than I feared. Maybe she is growing up? Maybe I am growing up? Of course, I was careful to include ample shopping time at Quincy Market and the Prudential mall, as well as in the little shops and stores in the Back Bay, and in the big mall in Roanoke, Virginia too. Shopping is very high up on DD2's list of Vitally Important Activities!.
So we were gone the whole week, leaving husband and DD3 on their own. As far as I can tell, they survived the experience.

I remember my college tour. I was sixteen at the time and a very scruffy little scuzzball of a teenager. I also had a literal teenage mind. I knew we were going on a road trip to New England to look at all the fancy schools. It was my mom, my brother, and me. I asked my mom: "Do I need anything to dress up." She said: "no." Never say this if your kid is a scuzzball. I packed all old sweat shirts and I did pack a bathing suit because we were staying in motels that might have indoor pools. A bathing suit just balls up in a corner of the duffle bag.
I remember eating at a fancy French restaurant and not having what to wear because mom did not say "BRING A SKIRT!" She couldn't complain about how badly dressed I was because "I'd asked if I had to bring something fancy and she said 'no.'"
I remember we all had one room and I volunteered to sleep on the roll-away since I did not drive and was tied with my mom for being the smallest. Harvey, my brother, was considerably bigger than either of us. I slept on the roll away every night.
I also found grape soda at every motel. My mother thought I was chivalrous. I ended up with a purple tongue. I also went to college and ultimately grad school in Upstate New York. It was a fun trip anyway.
