Woohoo!!! I FINALLY reached the magical plateau of having my profile page viewed 3,000 times!!!
This is no small potatoes! *
I've only been a member since 1/27/07 -- less than 15 months! So that's 3,000 views in LESS THAN 15 MONTHS!!! Do the math. That's over 200 views per month! Circa 50 or so a week! Uh, which is like around 7 a day. Hmmm. Does it count when I view my own profile page?
Anyway, here's proof:
Is it properly grammatical to write "This is no small potatoes!"? Or should it read: "These are no small potatoes!"?
Would "And those ain't small taters!!!" perhaps be better?

No small potatoes, for sure. As far as the correct grammatical version of "This is no small potatoes" or "this is no small potato" or "these are not small potatoes" -- you got me.
The version I always heard was, "ain't no small potatoes"...kind of takes all the plural vs singular out of the phrase making it ok.
(I've been a member since 12/10/07 and have to tell you cause now I'm excited! that my page has been viewed 3979 times!!!)

haha I'm so wicked. :)
I LUV MST3K!!! "This Island Earth" has to be the funniest one they have ever done!
As far as the grammar re: small potatoes, "small potatoes" is considered in cases like this as one grand thing, so using "is" instead of "are" is acceptable.
CONGRATULATIONS!

Skip the "This is" or "These are"...just go to the statement! "No small potatoes!"
Congratulations to you, rsb!
