"Hi, Dad," I say as I'm walking away from the building where I work. I have a mile walk to the train station and use it each day to stay in touch with my parents. "Oh, I'm so glad you called," he'll say. At age 85, dad is not in great health these days, so reaching out on a regular basis just to say hello and ask how he's doing and what's happening in his life makes me feel better. Once again, my Verizon Wireless phone is my lifeline to my family.

I remember when I was a little girl, I loved to talk to my girl friends on the phone for hours! My dad would always be saying, "get off that phone." Now, he's delighted to have me chat with him as I walk along, switching my Coupe from hand to hand. (I know, I have to get a headset!) With a 15 minute walk, there's just not enough time to say all we want to say to each other. But we always get in the most important point: "Bye, dad, I love you." I hear back, "Bye, sweetheart, I love you, too."
