Several Years ago I was fortunate enough to be a part of a online group that truly taught me about random acts of kindness. How lucky I was to have been a part of all this, even if it was at such a late age in life. We all do them, but too often we forget. Those planned out plots and schemes to help another don't count. It's those small things that we often don't even think of, like holding the door open for someone else to enter before you. This isn't to take the place of charitable actions, but rather the simpler things we learn to do out of common courtesy, that eventually becomes habit and makes us a better, more thoughtful person.
I found this widget on one minute acts of kindness. I can't tell you how much it has helped me focus more on others, rather than myself. Even as small children who is the center of their universe, so many of us remain there for most of our lives, till some major life changing event happens, that literally forces you to think of others. I am certainly not meaning that we are all self centered lumps of human flesh, but it is so easy to get caught up in our everyday dramas, keeping us from seeing the forest for the trees. I started checking on this widget several times a day and clicking on the on minute act of kindness and then started looking for ways to follow through.
As this Easter weekend approaches, this is a major event in the lives of those of us that are Christians, I realize, yet again the person who consistently made random acts of kindness and ultimately paid the final price for us all.
I truly want to be a better person. This is heart felt, as it is so easy to sit here and think only of my own set of circumstances and weaknesses. These one minute acts of kindness, make me think and then make me actually act them out. I am not a bad person, basically I'm pretty good, but have so much room for improvement. I imagine there are those that think I have vast room for improvement. Well, I am working on it, just one little random act at a time.

Beautifully said Diana. I know exactly what you mean. I too want to be a better person and not to do things for recognition, but to affect others in just small ways. Many times it's the small "insignificant" things that set bigger things in motion in our lives. Sometimes just a kind word can change a person's attitude and cause a chain reaction of events in their life.
