I just got back from visiting my mom to help her pull together all her tax information. She lives in Minnesota; I live in Massachusetts. After her move last spring/summer, she needed some help getting her paperwork in order... so I flew out and spent a couple days doing that.

But, even better, I met several of her "new" friends—people she's become close to over the past 8 months since she moved in to her Independent Living apartment. Her two friends named Mary are angels. They pop over mid-morning to see if she's up and about, they stop over with homemade soup or a little treat for lunch. They invite her along if they're going out in the afternoon. They make sure she's all set for dinner. The get together with her and other friends to play SKUNK or cards in the evenings. Her life is so busy, she says.

Having met these wonderful people, I am so relieved. They don't work at the facility, they are residents just like mom. It might be 1400 miles between us... but I can be her caregiver on a visiting basis because she’s made some amazing friends who will let me know if there’s an issue.

They have become dear friends to my mother, and they really care about her. I mean, I know how great my mom is -- fun and funny and interesting. And these people are the same, truly wonderful!

I also met up with my friend, Slyver, while out there. She came to mom’s 85th birthday party last fall. So each time I’m in Minnesota, we get together with mom and laugh and eat really good food. She’s another “gift” to both me and my mom from Eons!

I went to visit to give mom a little help, and I came back knowing that I've been given help, too.
