This is the first blog I've posted here at Eons. This subject is close to my heart because I love animals and therefore, I'm a real animal advocate!
I watch " Animal Planet" quite frequently and I'm appalled at some of the cases of animal abuse I've seen! Just last week they showed a case in Texas where an individual had kept several big bears and a tiger in small cages in his backyard. The cages where these large, wild animals were kept were so small that the bears, for example, didn't even have enough space to turn around! These animals are wild animals that are supposed to roam free in unrestricted spaces. Instead this evil human kept them imprisoned in cages! Thank goodness, the animal authorities were notified and these poor animals were taken to the zoo or a rescue place where they then had freedom to roam and enjoy life! When the vet checked them out, it was discovered that he old bear had a bad case of arthritis and very overgrown toenails, both conditions worsened by his confinement. The animal was obviously in a lot of pain! At the end of the "Animal Planet" program it was wonderful to see the bears as well as the tiger in their new and animal friendly habitant, roaming around and enjoying the life they so richly deserved!
Another case that was infuriating and sad was the Michael Vick case where he tortured the dogs that he used for fighting one another. The dogs he felt were "unfit" to fight, he hung by their necks from a pole, beating them mercilessly! Some of the dogs he drowned while the dogs screamed in pain. No animal deserves that kind of torture and I hope that Mr. Vick will think about his actions while sitting in jail! Sometimes I think that animals treat one another better than some human beings do!

Very good post...
I too watch the "Animal Planet" series but generally turn away from the programs dealing with abuse, because I am fed up with it and the people involved in it. They, (the people) should all be incarcerated somewhere together, and dealt with in the same manner they are accustomed to in handling their own pets and animals...let them 'suffer' for a while!
