After much, dare I say, thoughtful consideration, I have come to the clear conclusion that I am, I must be, the perfect Eons member!
Let me begin by saying that I was quite dismayed when I learned that eons was going to open its site to anyone from age 13 and up. This still seems ludicrous but on second, third and fourth thought it became clear that this had to have occurred because of who I was, who I am and whom I have yet to become. And because each of us has had to learn how to fit in the various segments of society I believe that YOU are the PERFECT eons member too!
Now, for the reasons I feel that I am THE perfect member of eons:
I am 13 when I am immature! I am 59 when I behave in a mature and spiritually motivated way.
I am 13 when my young heart posts silly, goofy things. I am 59 when I see the seriousness of some sides of life, but can enjoy a good laugh.
I am 13 when I have real life, heart-pounding fears and I am 59 when I realize that with God's guidance and caring family that I am going to be alright.
I am 13 when I perk up my profile and try to look sweet; I am 59 when I realize that sooner or later, the signs of life show up on all of our aging faces; and we each are beautiful in our own special way.
I am 13 when I fear the impending unknown and I am 59 when I realize I need to temper that knee-jerk reaction with some grounded reasoning.
So! You see, I TRULY am the perfect eons member because I fit all age brackets from 13 to currently 59. And years (eons) from now, however old life leads me to be, will see me still young at heart and hopefully growing in wisdom.
(You can fill in your own reasons why YOU feel you too are the PERFECT member of Eons!)

I agree! There are some really "neat" younger people and I have met several on eons and looking forward to meeting even younger ones now, "Young" to me is "old" to someone else. :-)R

Thank you for your positive spirit. It's what makes Eons such a special place.

Good points. I think there's room for both here. I know many of my favorite members have left here and joined Seniorocity view link , where it's an entirely over 40 crowd (I'm a member there too, and that site is very fun as well), but I think I'll stay here as well and see what happens. Nothing says I can't enjoy both sites. The change here could be for the good. And maybe we can teach the young crowd something.

I think the perfect eons member is caring, considerate, knows he/she doesn't know everything, knows they know a LOT, patient, has a sense of humor, and willing to learn. Hey, that does fit us, doesn't it!

The one fallacy in your point in apparent defense of the changes is that although we all can be 13 and 50+ because we lived it, a 13 year old cannot (and should not expected to) be (or understand what it is like to be) 50 +. By your logic (which I happen to agree with) EONS has now opened this site to members that cannot appreciate what it is like to grow old, It certainly isn't what I imagined when I was younger and looked at older people. We are much more alive then the kids give us credit for. Up until now, this site let us talk at our own level. Now it is just another chat site. There is no perfect member on the new EONS - only those who change to fit, those who give up and leave, and those who realize it is only a web site which we use when we feel like it and ignore if don't. Unfortunately loyality is not one of the parts of the equation..

True words philosophically, but if you actually were 13, and I being a 60 year old man, who decided to establish a "casual connection" with you, two things would happen in both the internet and the real society; ONE, your parents, when they found out (and hopefully they monitor your computer usage) would think I was very "odd" among other words, and TWO, my friend, my actions could be construed as inappropriate and illegal in all 50 states and I'm pretty sure that it's considered very inappropriate intranetwise.
Pajarito, this is what many of us are contemplating. Also, since you Manage a group, (and yes, I agree, you are both very young and very sage on any given day)... but with a group comes responsibility, and now your responsibility just become more burdensome (see above number ONE and TWO), because I have a sneaking suspicion that Eons will sneak something in the TOC stipulating that "Groups are supervised by Managers and Monitors, and that Managers are the ones who control the conduct of their groups" leaving us at risk and held responsible for inappropriate internet contact between minors and older members even when we find out about it after the fact. This is an accident waiting for a place to happen and this concerns me.
I liked your blog though.

artistinmaine has a point when it comes to the way things are viewed if a 13 yr old and a 60 yr old were involved in conversation. That is the thing that I DON'T like about this. It happened on myspace and it could happen here. I have put my group on "need approval" before one can join. I do not want to be responsible for a minor. There are 13 yr olds here and people said they would not come. I doubt that EONS wants to be responsible if something happens like happened on myspace.
I have enough real life under age people I know that are my clients kids and neigbors. I interact will people of all ages in my day to day life-online interaction with a minor is an accident waiting to happen.

As owner of a couple of groups; one will be private and one will be open but with approval. I, with the help of my moderators, will take the responsibility of our groups and handle them with care as we have always strived to do. This is not a perfect world, even more so, eons is not a perfect site, but it behooves us to act in a mature and responsible manner wherever we are in life, and I am not referring to just here. And, certainly, if I, and hopefully you, see anything inappropriate starting to develop, would report it immediately to those in charge.

You say it so well, dear PJ. You are also the perfect EONS member because the more lovingkindness you dispense, the more you have. I am SO PROUD to be the Co-Moderator to your Manager--and I know Anya is too.
Love,
Gary

Your right, We all are perfect Eons members. Everyone of us make Eons what it is. I's a great site only because of the people on Eons.

PJ...Terrific blog. You are right on the money...I think too many other "senoirs" on here though, have the 13 year old down well. The mature side seems to have taken a holiday.

WOOOOWWW! PJ FOR PRESIDENT. LOL!!! Now THAT'S what's called, "Pearls Of Wisdom". When you consider all of the "knee jerk" reactions to the news (mine included) I think if we're not careful we'll become those grumpy old neighbors from our childhood yelling, "GET THAT BIKE OFF MY LAWN YOU LITTLE BASTARD"!!!! Eons is/was our lawn and we don't want it all tracked up with tire marks. But, by the same token, some "kids" can do a really nice job with a lawn mower...I think you get my point. Let's not become that grumpy "OLD" neighbor. Thanx PJ, You're a doll.
