We are here because of shared memories of an era, and because we want to make friends and hear ideas from people who share our knowledge and experiences of times past, share the same frame of reference, as it were. We share information about matters pertaining to our age group, and teenagers have no reason to be here except perhaps curiosity. It could also open us up to sexual preditors and those who prey on and run scams on vulnerable people. I would hate to see a child come into some of the adult sites on here that I wouldn't even go into, and I'm very open-minded.
This change is hated and unwanted, and a betrayal to all of us who signed up because it was a site specifically for seniors.
The administration has done to us what all administrations seem to do, which is to make us consider buying stock in Vasoline.
I think we've been thrown under the bus. We'll just have to wait and see how this shakes out, but if it changes dramatically and we lose the tone that has been set here, I'm gone. If it turns out to be much ado about nothing, then let the youngsters have their say, and maybe we can guide them enough to keep them safe.
I don't think the kids will be that much of a problem; they're not going to want to hang with a bunch of "elderly" people, and this site isn't techie enough for them anyway. I enjoy decorating my MySpace, changing it for different seasons and moods. We don't have that capability here, and that part of it is rather boring to me, so I know the young people won't like it much. The only thing I do on MySpace is to get music and videos and keep in touch with friends at home. Yes, most of them are my son's age because they are friends of his, and my stepchildren; kids that have had their feet under my table and I've known for years, and the grands. I love kids, and enjoy their livliness and bright intelligence, even when they are saying something so dumb a parent questions their sanity. I've never even gone into a group there on Myspace. This is the site I spend free time on, and enjoy so much because of the people here. Eons handled this change badly. We've been disrespected and our opinions and efforts to maintain this as a viable site for seniors has been ignored. Having said that, I'm hoping for the best, in spite of all the angst and meanness I've seen all over the place.
We already have some of our own homegrown crackpots and naysayers, we don't need more negativity. On that note, I ask that you don't attack those few who disagree with the majority. They have their place here and have a right to be heard too. Let us be the kinder, gentler nation.
Since I have amended a bit and added to this blog, any of you who no longer agree with what I have stated and have posted comments here are free to PM me and ask to have their comment removed. I will be happy to honor that request; I am ever fair in my dealings with people. Wouldn't it be lovely if everybody else was????
Namaste all, and bright blessings.

This is exactly what killed the Boomers sight on AOL. The kids won't behave, the language was inappropriate and the hacking and scams that went on were impossible to tolerate. I am still in touch with several people I met and got to know well and none are still even on AOL. Too bad. Good luck, it's been fun. Love ya. Bye!

It was done for Money. Check out my profile I have it listed there!! This was a 50+ site, until Suzy allowed some of her friends, on the site and she admitted it, knowing they were well under 50. Suzy wants her friends and family on here. The CEO that owns this site is 47 and he wants on the site as well as all his friends. So just where does that leave us... Out in the cold.. That is the way they treat us people over 50!!
I have had it!! I love my family and I love my kids!! I have worked with kids for over 20 years and 16 years for the school district in a Correctional facility. Now ask me if I Love kids, Yes I do just not on here. I have voiced my anger all over this site!! I am surprised they have kicked me off yet. I am not through yet!! We are the BOOMERS and I will have my say!! Thank You so much!! You are so right.

Eons brand petroleum jelly has sand in it. Now bend over and put your forearms on the table...
I really can't imagine who will benefit from this, except maybe the kids, who get yet another free playground.

When I joined this site, I had never joined any sites at all. This place excited me. No new slang....wonderful memories....my peers.....that states it ....MY PEERS...my age group....when I turned 61, all celebrated with me and it was such a happy way to celebrate. My family (in the uncyper world) are wonderful ...celebrated with me as no one could....but I don't want my young grand kids on here - I have 4 that qualify. So , I asked them ...2 said "ish...no way would I join" The 13 and 15 year olds however, said, hey, fun with the oldsters....we could really have fun. They are computer savvy like I AM NOT and they were telling me of things that could be done..................
Well, this place was great...hope the invasion of teens does not ever happen. Will wait it out for awhile and see how things change. Meanwhile, I have scoped out other places and if this one heads South...so will I. Too bad. Love you guys.

I just recently joined eons after lurking for some time. Though I have not been much of a contibutor as of yet due to time constraints, I was happy to find a restricted age sight. It gave us the opportunity to communicate with people of the same age, sharing experiences. Look at some other sights that arent restricted and there is nothing but non-sense on them. I love kids. Have a few of my own...LOL. Eons can certainly carry on without me, and I can certainly live without Eons. Sure was a good thing while it lasted. As soon as the kids start checking in, I'll checking out.

I too am saddened by Eons decision to let babies onto the site. It will open up a HUGE can of worms soon. My personal feeling is that 13 year olds have as much business being on this forum as I have on MySpace, which at this point is ZERO. Once the babies start logging in and posting, I will make my final exit. Thanks.

I agree Namaste, imagine the idea of teens and twenties asking to be our Eons friends and how bad that would look if some of the men or some of the women had a lot of youths in their Friends' list. Also, a lot of younger guys are techno-nerds so could be spying on our messages and there could be more scamming. I just DON'T like it at all. Young people have youth and stamina on their side and just don't know our struggles and can be condescending like my own two youths are! Bless 'em. I do love them all, but don't want to share my thoughts and life with the majority of them, it's difficult enough coping with my own two at times, though they are wonderful. I think groups should stick to their own age group; we are in our last trimester and want to mix with others with similar struggles.

We have the option to block out people and posts we deem to be inappropriate in our groups, to delete inappropriate comments from our blogs and comments. This is all much ado about nothing. If we keep our groups going as is, we are the majority, so we are in control. If we start privatizing our profiles, groups, etc. then we are only hurting ourselves and letting them win. We've built Eons into what it is today, and we are the only ones who can destroy it, if we let the "unknown" stop us from continuing on as usual.

Eons has been hinting at this for months and protests have been many and adamant but they don't care what we think so a whole lot of members, including myself, have already moved their groups to Seniorocity.com. I started my group there last night and already 10 of my members have rejoined over there.
Most are using the same names so they can be recognized. That site has gained over 500 members in the last week or so.

The logo of this site was "The Flip Side of 50." That doesn't mean 47, 48 or 49 and certainly not teenagers! I am not interested in what youngsters think or anything they have to say. This site should remain to those of which the name EONS implies.

I am really upset over this! If I wanted to be on a younger site I know of several I would join in fact did join one of them some time ago. I felt so out of place! I was so happy to be able to join in with people who understood what we go through. This is a new journey for me. I have never been in my fifties before. I have lived every age to this point and don't want to relieve it by trying to compete with younger people in any way. I think this is a big mistake!!!!

I joined EONS because I felt like I could belong. Kids already have lots of places to go on line. I feel betrayed.
