Well today is my rookie appearance in the blogging world....I guess it would be an understatement if anyone has seen my profile to mention my life is and has been centered around the automobile.... Life for me started in a fairyland of sorts, Hollywood, progressed almost strangely into the past of American history and finally developed into the mainstream of the modern technical world.... A strange progression to say the least but certainly a fun ride.... I will share bits and pieces from time to time on this blog and hope to inform and entertain....
Now as a complete departure from everything I have just stated lets speak Thanksgiving at my home last week....
My oldest son Butch, our resident Daniel Boone and you will meet him at length in later stories, arrived early Wednesday morning with a live turkey held firmly around the neck and dangling out the drivers window of his truck.... In my mind seeing this truck coming down the road with a turkey hanging out the window must have been a real Thanksgiving experience for other motorist that day.... Departing his vehicle Butch switched hands and the stunned bird escaped with Butch in hot pursuit.... Naturally our immediate neighbors witnessed this semi high speed chase and assisted in the capture....
Excitement now behind us Butch conducted the necessary execution and cleaning with all the skill of a true mountain man.... It had been his plan all along to smoke the bird so that step was just beginning when the rain arrived.... This was no Florida shower but instead a steady drizzle destined to last the day....
An emergency step was implemented and the smoker was moved to the edge of the yard into the woods to shield it from the rain.... As the day progressed and Butch systematically checked on the turkey's progress a line of beer cans and cigarette butts developed from the back door to the woods.... By evening the rain had slaked up and the grass around the smoker dried.... Wala a fire sprang up at woods edge.... As we all scrambled to douse the fire Butch seeing this and also now being slightly intoxicated announces to the world.... Don't worry about it no one will know we started the fire....
Lets see now.... A turkey in a smoker in the woods and a line of beer cans leading to our back door.... Surely must have been lightning....
How about anyone else ? Does Thanksgiving always mean 911 ?

Carcat, you have the makings of a fine book about "Daniel Boone" reincarnated in your son, This is the most interesting Thanksgiving Day ever recorded, 911 is your friend in this case. How did the bird turn out? Glad to hear from you again, nanafox

You got my vote on a best seller, just get it written. How much like the young Carcat is your son Butch. They say an apple never falls far from the tree. We all should have been at your place for Thanksgiving. Still laughing Annie

This sounds like a typical Car Cat Thanksgiving, how many of the beer cans were yours?

Very funny story Carcat.
I used some Texas brains for my smoked turkey. I dropped by a supermarket in TX, bought one already fully smoked, then carried it in an ice chest all the way to MD. I hope that next year I can smoke my own in FL. but I can assure you it will be dead when I get it. The only way I want to chase a turkey is with a glass of wine.
