WHEW!! It's been a while. . .
Anyway, Thanksgiving is tomorrow. Bird-zilla is sitting in the fridge waiting to be doused in brine and roasted to a lovely golden brown. Fresh bread has been baked and turned into stuffing cubes to be crammed into bird-zilla. Pies will get baked tonight; cranberry sauce will be made later today. By tomorrow afternoon, we'll all be in a tryptophan-induced coma; life is good.
But, in Hyannis, Massuchusetts, an American family will be marking a dark anniversary. You see, tomorrow marks the 44th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy, our 43rd President.
How far we've come since that dark day in 1963. And how far we've fallen. Not so very long ago, this nation was the envy of the world. We were making tremendous strides to wipe out poverty, disease, war. . .
Today. . .
Well, I'll still give thanks tomorrow; I'm alive & healthy after a long battle with Lady Cancer.
I still have a roof over my head & plenty to eat, even though the bills are tough to pay.
Mrs. Dragon & I are fighting a battle to get me back to work; but we're still together and determined to stay together.
Our little dachshund is fat & happy and keeps us young.
The weather is unseasonably warm.
Elsewhere in the world, people are dying of starvation, struggling to survive after a natural disaster, being killed in bloody civil wars, fighting a needless war of aggression. . .
. . .and the wheel keeps on turning. . .
. . .and turning. . .
. . .and turning. . .
