erler-danlos syndrome refers a cluster of symptoms that result from the body not metabolizing copper and collagen normally. It is caused by the malfunction of an collagen metabolizing enzyme that is due to a mutation on the a chromosome. There are two types of EDS. EDS type 9 is also called cutis laxa and Occipital Horn Syndroms (OHS). EDS9 is a mutation on the X chromosome. The other is called EDS type 5-a mutation on Chromosome 5. from what I can glean from the OMIM (online mendelian inheritance in man) website, type 5 patients have presented with stretchy skin, a tendency to bruise and, in a few, floppy mitral valves. EDS Type 9 (cutis laxa) can produce a wide variety of symptoms and here is a link to what I could find about it. Confusing, isn't it?
