A poem I wrote a while back. Nothing special, but I like it, and it really has a part of "me" in it ...
Knight Without Armor---
His eyes cast downward toward the ground
while pondering his life,
he wondered why it always seemed
to be so filled with strife.
He'd ruined almost everything -
his daughter, son and wife.
The pain of losing his true love
cut through him like a knife.
When he comes back in his next life
he hopes that he will be
a chivalrous and fearless knight
just like he used to be.
He was a knight so long ago
when damsels in distress
could count on him to save them and
would not allow him less.
At first he loved it, sadly though
his personality
was such that he could not disclose
who he had hoped to be.
He wanted only love from them
but failed because of this:
they saw him not as lover but
someone they could dismiss.
Rejection and the pain he felt
for trying hard to be
the kind of man that they could love
left scars you cannot see.
So he avoids all semblance of
responsibility,
for he no longer wants the pain
so he won't stay - he'll flee.
He wishes he could see himself
as you want him to see,
but that's not possible right now,
and doubtful e'er will be.
You see, he needs what he can't have
to heal and to renew:
the love of a good woman who'll
make all his dreams come true.
