2007 so far has not been what I hoped for or even expected. I returned to work after the holidays with the optimism for a new year only to be given the news that one of my co-workers has been diagnosed with cancer and will be out the rest of the year. My special education department at school is a close group of diverse people who have been together many years. This particular individual has been with us for many years. We worked together during her pregnancy with her third child who is now in our high school. She is a good person. She has worked hard all of her life. She has given to so many. And now she is fighting for her life. There is an empty desk in our department where she should be. I am hoping she feels the strength of all of us so that she becomes a survivor and can see the graduation of her last son.
