For decades, I have been trying to find a book that I read as a child. The protagonist was a young girl who was sucked down the bathtub drain. She ended up in a pond located in a forest where the animals could talk. I could not remember the name of the book, and after posting on Eons and receiving several replies, I did some more searching. For some reason, the name "Clarinda" seemed to sound right, and there was a book published in 1944 titled Clarinda by Frances Duncombe. I send a query to the seller and he replied, saying that it was, indeed, the book for which I searched.
Here's the rub: the price is $124. Now that I'm retired on disability, I have to decide how badly I want this book. What if the story is really cheesy and my brain doesn't remember that? Of course, the other books from childhood that stuck with me have also been found and purchased. Reading them has been a pleasure.
So, it stands to reason that if this book stuck in the musty corners of my mind, it might be worth shelling out the money to obtain a copy.
I'm going to spend a few days pondering before I make my decision. Maybe just knowing that the book actually exists, and was not a figment of my imagination, will be enough.
