I received notification that I have been offered a position with the VA as a training manager for a high visibility program. The salary is excellent but more importantly, the team are all great people and the program a vital one. This is the kind of job where you can actually touch someone's life in a positive way and make a real difference.
Breaking the news to my current employer was difficult in that my leaving will definitely have an adverse impact, at least in the short term, on the program's success. Additionally, I was selected as emplyee of the month. As you can imagine, telling the boss that I am leaving at the end of the month was stressfull. I imagined all sorts of bad things happening like the boss telling me to immediately clean out my desk and leave. Fortunately, as much as he might like to do that, my position requires a higher level replacement and I have a number of very large accounts that need to be transitioned. That being said, both my boss and his boss were delighted at my good fortune. I of course, offered to assist in any way possible with the transition process. Fact is that I am going to a position where I will make more money than both of my bosses. There was really nothing they could say or do to entice me to stay.
Well, it will be an interesting next two weeks as I wrap things up and prepare for starting my job. Stay tuned.....
