Living in Southern California, we don’t get the distinct change of seasons that people in other parts of the country get. But for most adults, September is the beginning of the year because we grew up in traditional school systems where the school year began in September.
I remember that by the end of August, my folks were tired of me and I was tired of them. What had started out as unlimited play time, had turned into endless days of boredom. Vacation was over. I was ready to get back to the real world. There was an air of seriousness in our house the closer we got to Labor Day. School was about to start, fall was coming, it was a new year.
I still have that feeling every September. The calendar says the year starts in January, but my year starts in September. Just like when I was in school, I want to make sure I’ve got all the supplies I’ll need for the coming year. I’m ready to get busier. I know that playtime is over and it’s time to start accomplishing things.
I update my wardrobe and anxiously await the time I can put away my tees and shorts (which may not happen here in Corona.) And, even though it may be 100 degrees outside, I am ready to start my year in September.
How about you? Are you ready to start afresh this September?
