Remember that birthday present that OBoyle told the Eons Drawing & Painting, Etc. world about early this month? It is a Logitech QuickCam. I installed it today, to the uttermost consternation of my dear Wife, Joni (permission just now obtained to use her first name).
She hates the Webcam with the intensity of Hellfire. And right now she hates Steve (that's OBoyle) even more.
She is afraid of, among other things, streaming video being sent to cyberspace unbeknownst to us. Now, I'm as paranoid as the next guy, but unless the Logitech Corporation is the REAL Evil Empire, stuff only goes out to the Internet if WE tell it to.
That doesn't cut any ice with her--and speaking of ice, it's gotten pretty frosty here in the Bowhouse, and the price of bullet-proof vests is going up!
Making matters worse, Steve just connected & like seven-year-old kids we are mugging & Steve somehow put a virtual arrow through his head, put on Groucho Marx glasses&stash, etc.
Can't get the sound to work, though--Steve says it must be something on my end.
Back to the subject! I told Joni I would write a blog about webcamming. "It touches on a lot of issues: personal privacy, body image, advanced technology . . ."
"Imminent death . . ."
"No, no, dear, I just DID a blog about Death!"
"IMMINENT Death . . ."
Message received. Over & OUT!

More than likely the sound problems are on your end somewhere. As I just had a conversation with my Sister in Bremerton, WA., without any sound problems.
My wife, I won't mention her name, was also very squeeeemish about having a webcam. Now she loves it, because she can make free long distance video calls to her Dad in Milwaukee.
And tell the Bosses that the webcam can be unplugged, until you want to use it. That way there can be no unsolicited viewing of her or the daughter in curlers.
