I'm a ridge or two away these days from Grass Valley, but I still enjoy the electronic edition of the morning paper and the human interest stories. You neer know with small towns where the people are from or the past life.

It is always fun to learn more about people. I have had the privilege of hearing literally thousands of special stories from my patients....and I never get tired of them! I was hoping the bluegrass band played in the store....that would be cool.

I once had a friend who purchased a hardware store in a small town as a retirement activity. Then, the big discount hardware store came into town and drove him out. It's nice to see Sears is putting in these smaller units in more remote communities. I grew up with the Sears Catalog in the house. We did have inside plumbing, and store bought toilet paper. But my parents used the book for many purchases. A small Sears Outlet store was located in town, where the item could be shipped. Now the Sears Mall Stores carry just about everything, and if not, Home Depot or Lowes has the item. As for Blue Grass music, that you can find it on every street corner in Kentucky. It comes in 24/7 on a couple of local TV channels.

There used to be a large Sears here. And a Ward's and a Penney's. The only one left now is a very small Sear's , locally owned. We had many things from the Sear's catalogue. Even my grandparents home came from the Sears catalogue. 'Big box' stores drive lots of businesses away, which is a shame. We have blue-grass music in the parks , most every Friday. There is something to be said for knowing the proprietors of small businesses, and , something to be said for being able to find what you need at the big box store.
