Sarah Palin was in town yesterday, signing books for the thousands of Cincinnati area residents who came out to the Joseph Booksellers ceremony. Everybody is talking about Sarah -- some critically and some positively. Her face splashed across the front page of the Cincinnati/Kentucky Enquirer this morning as I sipped my coffee, reading the headline story.

So when Katie Couric asked the then Vice Presidential candidate, “What do you read?” with a condescending tone, the answer could have been, “All the dollar signs on the royalty checks I am receiving and everybody else is reading my book. What do you read, Katie?”

“We’re going to have a blast,” she declared to the crowd, some of whom had waited hours for a chance to see her and get a signature. A couple of comments:

--“I like her, she doesn’t drink the tea it seems all the other politicians drink when they go to Washington.”

--“She’s seems honest and says what on her mind without filtering it. We need more like her.”

You may disagree, even vehemently, with her politics but have to admire a woman who rose from small town roots to national prominence and wasn’t quite ready for the attention. I believe at some point last year she said to herself, “I’m not taking it anymore and I’m going to give it back and make some money doing it.” She is doing just that.

Do I think she is Presidential material? No. But IMHO neither was Barack Obama, with a thin background as a community organizer. But I think she is a woman of great interest who has some type of a future in our country.

My daughter's favorite expression is, "The guys in Kentucky admire a woman who can haul lumber." Sarah can haul lumber with the best of them.
