I was talking with someone the other day about blogging. Still not sure I understand the blog, why people blog or what the ultimate purpose is. But that was not our topic.

We was discussing fake blogs. You know things that seem to be blogs but aren't- flogging is the term that I've heard..

I was struck in the last few days by the number of blogs here that are more ads than blogs. And to be honest that doesn't bother me. Hey, we grew up on TV and radio supported by advertisers.

But I do wonder when I see a guy whose profile says he's from somewhere in Asia suggesting a vacation lodge in New Hampshire. You have to wonder about that one. What did the kid know? Could he find New England if his life depended on it?

Celebrity endorsements are nothing new. And probably Ed McMahon never read all of the Publishers Clearing House magazines - or maybe he did. In any event it is too late to ask. We assume these folks have been paid to share a little celebrity for sales purposes.

But some guy I never heard of endorsing a resort in New Hampshire. Maybe we need a little more information in that blog. Something to give us some reason to take the guy seriously. Certainly, imho you got to question anyone who is endorsing a New England resort in the winter time- brrrrr.

Sorry people from any place with snow and cold and a real winter. Just not my thing. Maybe if you got the Governator to do an endorsement, I might have paid my attention.

I wonder as well at some of the 'blogs' posted in recent times. Some are clearly promotions for a product or a business. Some are fairly clever- written to couch the real intent behind seeming to be an individual sharing a facet of their life.

I'm saddened that so much of the general blog forum , not only here but on other sites is being consumed with 'flogging'. It certainly discourages folks from perusing the general blogs and I think to some degree, from posting. After all- when readers have to sift through five, ten, or even twenty 'info-blogs', just to find a genuine blog- it's too much for them and they just avoid the blogs altogether. That's just my opinion. I know that I get a little weary flipping through these things- and I certainly am not inclined to investigate whatever they are touting, just as I don't with products hyped on TV or in print media. But again- that is me, and for those who do- then more power to them.

I have reported more than one inappropriate blogs to EONS. Once there was a flood of porn on the site. Then I then started getting some PMs from women who wanted to get together with me. I guess they just wanted to pet me and wiggle my ears. But I have my standards as to who gets to pet me and wiggle my ears. I appreciate that a blog allows people to express themselves and their point of view from time to time. I choose to do it daily. But believe me, I don't want to sell you anything or interest you in renting my Florida property for a month. Now where exactly is this vacation lodge in New Hampshire?

Cl- The blog endorsed the Ash Street Inn in Manchester. Shotgunbanko was the writer. his profile says he is 24 years old and from the Philippines. His only other entry is for computers. Just seemed pretty unbelievable to me. I'm sure the Ash Street Inn is probably a fine place but what does some 24 year old in the Philippines know about New Hampshire let alone the Ash Street Inn. There's an untold story there or just some BS.

I am not up for this here on Eons...this isn't like Facebook where it is about networking. There, I have my business fan club. But here, I expect people to be somewhat real with me....fake anything is a big turn off and what I mean by fake, is receiving a friend invite as a way to sell me something later or to get me to donate to their cause. If I suspect any form of it in a blog or a friend invitation, I don't go there.
Flogging is a Informal way to publicize aggressively...so if thats what someone whats to do...great, but not here on Eons? I kinda think of this "cyberhome" as my second home...here, at my land home, I have a sign that reads "no soliciting"...I'd be happy to put one up on my profile page as well.
A 24 year old from the Philippines???? yep, John, It would be unbelievable to me as well.

There has been a bill floating around in Congress to compel bloggers who are sponsored to tell so up front. Lots of opposition from the 'free speech, free internet' contingent. Personally, I am all for it. "Truth in advertising" side of the coin. As is required in newspapers, radio and TV.

Blogging is a form of creativity for some of us. For others, a promotional tool. It is very hard to sift through the stuff in the general blogs, so I subscribe to blogs that I find of interest. Or, knowing the person from my groups, I go check their profiles for new blogs.

As for a foreigner who is touting a tourist spot in New Hampshire? I went to New England last fall, on a tour with people from all four corners of the world...so why not?
