Last night the World Series came to an end. 7-3 New York won over the bad boys from Philly, taking the series 4 games to 2..
First World Series win in the new stadium. Number 27 in the course of Yankee history. The best record of any sports team anywhere , well in known recorded history..
You get a glow when the home town team wins. Makes you wonder. What is it about a team that inspires loyalty?
The Yankees have always inspired love and hate. They were always the guys on top. The guys other team rooters loved to hate.
As I kid I had the baseball cards for so many of the yankee greats, the Bronx Bombers. There was Marris and Mantle and Yogi my favorite for some reason. Even though I grew up about 180 miles from New York City, the Yankees were my team.
Boston was where we shipped our milk, cheese and farm goods, But New York had our hearts. Maybe it was Times Square and all the neon lights. Boston was where the family claimed their history but our baseball heart was in New York..
Even from 3,000 plus miles away, the Yankees still have their claim on me. The neon lights of Times Square long ago faded but not the love for the pinstripes. So in the glow of another World Series, I wonder what that means?

And I was amazed to watch the trophy presentation: as all the speeches were made, and the trophy lifted high over the heads of each person as he spoke, the packed stadium was still packed, the fans were still cheering. George Steinbrenner can be as proud of the fans as he is of his team.

No matter where I go, this gal is a Yankees fan. At times the locals have been hostile, but what the heck. Did you notice the Yankee batting stats?

Hubby lives and dies (mostly dies) with the Mets. So did my grandfather. Sorry, I can't say "Go Yanks!" Might be too dangerous around here. But, they DID win, and I am always happy for the winners.
