Since Randi and I are planning to head back to Lockport for another "quick" trip, we decided to take her to that new Mexican restaurant in town. I think she enjoyed it very much--as did we.
You know me--I'm one of those "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" people, so I got the same thing I got the first time--beef fajitas. Sid wanted the same thing, so we ordered the "for two" size and saved a couple of bucks. Randi wanted the shrimp fajitas, but she doesn't eat them with the tortillas. She enjoyed that a lot, and she gave each of us a shrimp to taste. It was actually quite good, but none of us could finish our meal, so Sid will have several meals taken care of while Randi and I are gone--lots of beef and a few shrimp. I think I don't have to worry about him having enough food for a couple of days, so that's good.
Crazy armadillos--they constantly wreak havoc with our property. We saw one as we took a ride to the woods on the 4-wheeler yesterday. Sid is ready to take out his rifle, do some target practicing, and will try to get rid of some of these. I hate killing any kind of animal, but these are really destructive, so I guess we have to try to get rid of them to prevent more damage. And, these sure seem to be dumb animals (pardon me, animal rights' groups)--they just continue to burrow even as we are sitting on the 4-wheeler right next to them. Either they are deaf or extremely brave; perhaps, like snakes, the feel the vibrations and don't move until they feel there is some real danger. Well, they'd better start sensing danger soon, 'cuz Sid will be out to get them pretty soon.
A lot of today was spent waiting for info about Channie's hoped-for appointment at Children's Hospital in NO. She did get one for Friday morning, so Randi and I will be going back tomorrow so I can go with Jess and Channie to that appointment. Randi had been going there since she was a baby, so I am familiar with the route and the process of getting in there. I have nothing but good words about that place--they were wonderful with Randi, and I've seen their work--these doctors are excellent, and their bed-side manner with the kids is super. Randi never had a problem with the doctors, and with kids, that's so important. I pray that we have the same kind of situation on Friday for Channie--and I have no doubt that we will.
Since her appointment is on Friday, I'll just stay over that night so I can watch the SUPER BOWL that Rett's team is playing in. Sure hope they do as well as they did in the first half of last Saturday's game. I must admit that they sort slacked off in the third quarter, but thankfully, they picked up again in the final minutes of the last quarter. GOOD LUCK to Rett and his team.
My sister, Silvia, had two grandchildren who celebrated birthdays this week, and I forgot to mention them. Her oldest grandchild, Jacob, celebrates his 24th b/day today; his little sister, Nikki, became 20 on the 1st. I hope they both had great days and that the coming year brings them all things good. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Kids!
The weather lately has been absolutely gorgeous--lots of sunshine and cooler temps. Of course, it usually gets pretty warm during the day, but it's not been as hot as usual. In fact, it really feels good out there. When we took our ride to the woods yesterday, we actually had to have jackets on in certain areas. It is strange how we feel warm in one area, and with a slight turn, we have VERY cold temperatures. We haven't been able to ride IN the woods since Gustav, but hopefully, during the winter, Sid will be able to get in there with his chain saw and remove some of the larger trees that are blocking our riding path. That will take a lot of work, but it has to be done.
Not much else is going on here, but I wanted to put in this entry before heading off to Lockport. When I return, I hope to have more news about Channie and all the goings-on out there. I know I'll get to visit with my Mom and my brothers; maybe, I'll get a chance to see my sister, as well.
Until then, take care and have a great evening.
QUOTE: "We have committed the Golden Rule to memory; let us now commit it to life." Edwin Markham
NOTE: It is so easy to tell someone about the Golden Rule, but to live it--ahhhh, that's another matter. I have often told my kids how easy it would be for the world to have peace if EVERYONE lived the Golden Rule--'Do unto others as you have them do unto you'--doesn't seem that hard to me. I used to tell that to my students, too. When they would complain about something that someone did, I would usually ask them what they had done--and there was almost always something that initiated the other person's actions. So, I could then present the thought/question: "How would you like it if that person did to you what you did to them?" Hmmmmm--different story, huh? I am a firm believer in thinking before one acts--would I want someone to say or do that to me? Puts a different slant on things, don't you think? So, always ask yourself if you would want that "done unto you" before you "do unto them"----things might turn out a whole lot of different!
