I've heard Philly is a tough town. Even read that Philly has the nastest fans in sports.
But I have to wonder. Last night's world series game, A-Rod got hit by yet another pitch. This was no brush back. He got nailed right in the middle of his back. And the Philly crowd roared its approval.
And this was not the first time he has been hit. This was the third bit of Brotherly Love in 2 games. Usually baseball pitchers at this level can hit the eye of a gnat at 90 feet. And they toss baseballs at well over 90 mph.
In the regular season just one pitch like this would start a brawl. Three pitches with hit batters might end up with someone in the hospital.
But in the World Series, a brawl equals being tossed out of the series. And suspension for part of the next season. We want a gentleman's game.
The umps finally took some action. Both teams were warned that another hit batter and the pitcher would be tossed..
About time someone did something to protect batters. Might be a little late though for Philly. A-Rod came back and drove in the game winning run. Philly might be nasty. But A-Rod is the tough older brother who just shrugged off little brother's antics. Some brothers just have a weird notion of Luv.

I lived in Philadelphia for two years and never saw any evidence of brotherly love in that place all the while I was there. I think it went out of style with Benjamin Franklin.
