Only 16 days before I start my dream vacation! It is so exciting to think that I will finally be able to see Hawaii. We will be staying in a beautiful condo(see picture) in Kapalua, Maui for six nights before flying to Kauai. I have to say that having access to the Internet for vacation planning has added so much fun to this trip. I have received some great advice from fellow travelers as well as making contacts for accommodations and travel all on line. I highly recommned trying the site vrbo.com. If you are not famililar with it, owners of houses and condos list their properties and then you can contact the owners for more info. I have had excellent luck traveling this way before to Florida and Colorado, so I am hoping that Hawaii will be the same.

Make certain that you get up early one day and travel to the summit of the volcano to see the sun rise. I would recommend that you do it the first day while your body clock is on EST. My last visit I just picked up the rental car and drove to the entrance to the national park (they have bathrooms there). I slept in the car (or tried to) until about 5:00 AM, then made the drive to the summitt for the sun rise. Take warm clothes it is windy and in the 30's up there. The views are unforgettable.
After seeing the sun rise drive back down the access road to rte 377, turn left and head south. On the way ask how to get to Grandma's restaurant for breakfast and Kona coffee. You will be very tired because of jet lag. After you have breakfast head to your condo and crash.
More later. Jim
