Today I learned I could live to 103. Wow. That's not nearly long enough. I have read so much about climate change, I really want to make it till 2065, to see if the world is going to turn itself around in time. In the movie, Independence Day, the whole world unites in a matter of days and mobilizes a united attack on the alien invaders. If only we could all trust each other enough to realize we really are all on this planet together and we face the same common problems. It also makes me wonder why the NASA scientists continue to search for planets with water and planets that could support life as we know it? Are they planning to launch an Ark to save humanity after we have destroyed this planet? Like in Superman?
I became so frightened after reading Climate Code Red by Spratt and Sutton that I had to stop reading all this stuff. I am just a housewife. I am only a spectator of the global drama that will play out over the next 50 years. Will humanity win the race with time to restore our climate? Or will we see millions die unnecessarily from rising oceans, tsunamis, earthquakes, drought, starvation and global migrations? I know humanity is very resourceful, if we can just stop fighting long enough.
But there are still many people who don't believe the science, who think it all a hoax. My scientist daughter doesn't think it a hoax. The evidence is overwhelming, she says. So we can but pray that the light will shine in the darkness of ignorant minds. And buy real estate on high ground.
Jesus said 'In the last days, it will be as it was in the days of Noah.' I don't know if these are the 'last days' he spoke of--but these times certainly do make one think of what the world could have been like for people before the Great Flood. A global cataclysmic event was predicted, but the people ignored the prediction, ridiculing and cursing the prophet, just as they ridiculed and cursed most of the prophets in the Bible, including Jesus himself. Whether you believe there really was a prophet named Noah, and a global flood, is irrelevant. The truth here is that the Biblical author knew human nature very well. We see the same reactions today. Denial is alive and well.
Will it really happen? We don't know. But there have already been MANY signs given, and everything they predicted years ago is happening now. If the 'Earth melts with fervent heat', as St. Peter prophesied, during our lifetimes, what will be our excuse when we stand before God? I was just a spectator? Just a housewife?
Wow, what a downer. Which is why I stopped reading about climate change and started reading about how to stay alive longer. I can practice denial, too, clearly. Now I am so busy learning to cook all over again as I cut out all meat, and learn to love vegetables, I just don't have time to worry about the planet. I hope somebody is, though.
By the way, I am interested in recipe sharing with other vegans. Is there a group? I will have to look. Meanwhile, let's all just try to get along, since we may not have much time left here.
