But they can't tell which came first, the loss of (as they so delicately put it) cognitive function, or the sleep disturbances.
They should have just asked me. You lose sleep because you're worried your getting to be a batty old lady. Then the next day, lack of sleep makes you even more batty, so that night you're REALLY worried.
The downward spiral has begun. The only way to stop it is to start worrying about becoming a bag lady. THAT will drive petty concerns like "Am I Batty?" right out of your mind.
My solution has been to grin and nod. Indiscriminately. It makes people wonder what I've been up to. As long as I don't actually *say* anything, it's sometimes is even mistaken for wisdom.
So don't lose sleep over senility. Statistically, the chances are pretty low that you're really going batty. But it doesn't hurt to keep 'em guessing.
