While in Canada we like to read their newspapers, it’s interesting to see another country’s perspective. I read an editorial by Tabatha Southey in The Globe and Mail about the town hall meetings back here in the States. According to her all American men yell and fight and all American women are too dumb to string a complete sentence together. And we should just quietly accept what our government, in their wisdom, deems appropriate for us. Then, on the same day, I read in the Winnipeg Sun that it takes about 19 weeks to get an MRI. Can you imagine? 19 weeks! My cancer was discovered during a routine colonoscopy and I was getting a CT scan, x-rays and blood work within an hour to determine the best course of action. Surgery within a week and then chemotherapy as soon as I recovered. Had I been in Canada I would still be waiting for the tests by the time I was half way through chemo here. Or maybe I would still be waiting for my colonoscopy?!?! What a terrible system, no wonder so many Canadians come here for healthcare. I wonder why “Tabby” needed to vent like she did?
After delivering in Winnipeg we went to Green Bay via Minnesota and then through Illinois to KC.
We were driving on I-55 in Illinois and got into a horrendous storm. We caught a sudden wind gust that almost turned us over, couldn’t see a thing for all the rain. Then we saw a semi that did get turned over. When we got to Williamsville where we were supposed to fuel, we saw a lot of people walking from the town on the eastside of the freeway over the overpass to the truck stop on the Westside. They were walking alone and in groups, some leaning on one another and others carrying things. They looked up at us as we drove by and I have never seen people look so haunted and shell-shocked, it was heart wrenching. That’s when we saw the devastation of the town and realized that they were being evacuated after a tornado hit their town. I am still thinking about them, praying for them and hope that they will recover from this disaster.
We spent a few days at home getting our youngest ready to go back to college, it’s her senior year. We are very proud of her!
After some time off we got a load to Phoenix (very, very hot there!) and then had a beautiful drive through Monument Valley up into Utah and then Colorado.
We’re in Denver right now, freight is slow, so we have some time to catch up on things, do some shopping and generally just hang out.
I also started knitting again, sometimes I get tired of it but then the mood hits again and off I go. Right now I’m knitting a pair of socks, then I’ll make a sweater for my daughter and then one for me. I guess I have to keep my hands busy and knitting is one of the few hobbies one can do in the truck. I thought about beading but one good pothole would bring that to a stop, I’m sure.
So I knit, listen to audio books and take pictures.
