Once again waxing philosophical. As I was taking a late walk/jog last night I began to think about all I’ve seen come and go (which helped me not think about the pain in my knees). Here is a partial list of things that have faded into the sunset.
At 61 I have seen 45 rpms go but not without a lot of good memories before they disappeared. Reel to reel and 8 tracks came and went, but again lots of great memories. Cassette tapes will soon be gone and probably Cds. I’ve got some 8mm movies of my sister and I … copied on a VCR … guess I better get them on a DVD or something before they go away.
I’ve seen Hudson, Studebaker, Ramblers go (again lots of good memories). Pontiac is now gone and Olds too I think. I think the only reason Buick has survived is Tiger Woods. In the top of the closet I have an electric typewriter, anybody interested?
Music has been a big part of my life but some of it doesn’t even make sense if you weren’t there. “I’ve got a Brand new pair of roller skates you’ve got a brand new key.” Ask some kid about a skate key and they would probably think you had power rollerblades.
Some things that have gone and it’s a good thing. Polio, small pox, and disco music come to mind. Living in Cocoa gave me a front row seat to the space program. I saw the first American in space, the first man to orbit the globe and the first man on the moon, all from right across the river. Some of it I even got to see up close when I worked at KSC.
Things have changed a lot in 61 years. And I’ve tried to keep up with the change. I’m not really opposed to most change. But I have to say I’m having more trouble keeping up lately. I think things are changing faster as I get slower.
I’ve gone from DOS to Windows and found the change most pleasant. I’ve been through numerous versions of Windows and I’m now trying to adjust to Vista; thanks Bill for giving us all the opportunity to test your products after purchase.
I’ve gone from a Commodore 64 to the HP I just got, from bits to gigs, but I have yet to join the cult known as “Mac.” I can communicate by e-mail, bulletin board, Facebook, blog, text, but I have not yet tweet or twit or whatever you call it.
I have been asked several times to switch my e-mail to hot-mail or g-mail but my response is always revron48@yahoo.com is the only permanent address I’ve ever really had and I’m not going to change (I don’t think.)
Anyhow, that’s the ramblings of an old man, if your out there and are thinking “He forgot to mention _______ “ Well just add it to the comments. I can assure you it’s not the first thing I’ve forgotten today.
