Aside from "Santa Claus is coming to town," shopping, parties, gifts, lights and decorations, and Christmas tree, what is really the true meaning of Christmas? What if there were no Christmas, would the world be better off?
Well Christmas is not the most important of the Christian holy days. That certainly would be Resurrection Sunday. But there is nothing wrong with celebrating the birth of the Savior. The significance of christmas in summed up in the God of Heaven and Earth coming as the incarnate emmanuelle. That is to say God with us! Remember John 3:16.
The Christian community has allowed the secular world to take over our holy day and turn it into crass commercialism. We have focused too greatly on our gifting and spending instead of focusing on the great gift given at the first Christmas.
If there were no Christmas then there could be no Resurrection Sunday and no the world would not be better off. We would be destined to a Godless hell with no hope of redemption. But because Jesus was brought to earth to be human like us and yet retained His divinity we are given the opportunity by faith to trust Him for our eternity.
So the real meaning of the gift of Christmas is Jesus!
I still believe in the spirit of Christmas. The birth of Christ--Gods ultimate gift to man. I taught it to my kids as they are now to theirs. For a little while every year people(most of them anyway) think a little more of others than of themselves. They think a little more about the needy, they are friendlier, and kinder to strangers. Sure ,we should be more like that all year. But what would we be like without that yearly dose?
Without Christ there will be no Christmas, and without Christmas there will be no proclamation of HOPE (freedom, favor of God), no provision for HEALING, no display of God's GLORY (Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11 prophecy of Messaiah's coming). Without Christ of Christmas we would not experience renewed life, enjoy rewarded life, and exhibit a righteous life.
