It seemed odd to me that knitting patterns don't usually mention at what measurement to place your first buttonhole.

Do you place the first buttonhole at one
inch and then every two inches.

Or, maybe the first one at the 3" or 6" mark, depending on the length of the garment and the look you are going for.

The next question being, how far apart do you space your buttonholes?

I decided the best way to resolve the issue was to go to store like Macy's, check out the placement of buttonholes on ready-made sweaters and take it from there.

So, I realized it's really at your own discretion, which made it seem like I was over-stressing what to do.
