I saw a movie, don't know if it's correct, that suggested that Mark Twain, Samuel Clemons, wanted to write about how beautiful his wife/love, (etc.), was, but because he was known for his humor, he had to keep writing comedy.(pause)I also "heard" that when F.Scott Fitzgerald became famous, (and I guess there's some truth to this one), Zelda,(see the book), also a writer, his beloved wife, ended up in a nuthouse--for life!!!!(pause)So I say: Forget all the problems associated w/a writer's life:(like "writer's block," the fear that your fiction will become real, the fear of a "high profile," etc.:ad infinitum), remember that Hemann Hesse, who won the Nobel Prize, lost his wife to quick-acting schizophrenia, or something, "lost," his kids to another home: This writing business comes with some real drawbacks, potentially!!!!(almost out of cold coffee). Lately, instead of wanting to write about the human condition, I've been wracking my soul about the potential fact that things like the Amazon Rain Forest MAY have been a "cultured community."(????)And forget looking for the differences in people, although Faulkner is supposed to have said or written that all people have conflicting dynamics, (within them), and it's the most interesting thing about people, and the best thing to write about.(pause)I'd not worry about it, but Faulkner also said that Man(kind) will not only survive but prevail. (????)(against what?)Then you've got Hunter S. Thompson, who recently(two years ago?), after a successful writing career, starting a "school" of journalism, ("Gonzo journalism"), and lecturing...(hold on to your hats, kids)...blew his brains out (like Hemingway): For No Apparent Reason!!!!(what gives????) (pause) Where are these guys' muses????(pause)All I can figure, at least for now, is to keep my faith to myself, and try to keep up with the world, or whatever.(Laugh?Out Loud????)Keep the faith, and remember what the character Auntie Mame said: "Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death!!!!" (pause) I resemble that remark!!!!(pause)'nuff for now, and like Red Skelton used to say, "...and may God bless!!!!"
