I think it is OBSCENE for someone who plays a game (however well he plays it) to be paid a salary that equals the bailouts the government is handing out like they are popcorn. What kind of mentality do we have in this country that we can let people get away with demanding and receiving that kind of money, when there are so many people losing their jobs, their homes, their cars, and the whole economy is going down the tubes. What are the owners and managers of the teams thinking, when they put that kind of money on the table? Who do they think will be able to pay to come see this valuable player? In order to pay him, they'll raise ticket prices that are already out of sight, and the common man who has seen his savings disappear simply won't be able to afford to go see a game.
Will this guy be so valuable to them when the stadium is empty?
I don't think the salaries commanded by the star athletes, actors and actresses, or any kind of entertainment career are justified in today's crumbling economy. Seems like if each one of these over inflated egos would donate just 1% of their income to the government, we might be able to pull out of this spiral and get back on our feet. But will that ever happen? Why no, the government will continue to take the bailout money from MY taxes and the team owners and producers will continue to over inflate ticket prices to justify their stupidity in paying these people such crazy salaries.
