This one Issue is tearing us apart! If you don't agree with someone that we should just accept millions and millions of people walking in and taking our country, then you are heartless, a hatemongerer, I do not understand this sentiment. I find it hard to believe that some of our citizens' think so little of this great land!
Not to mention I have received personal attacks on my character and my I.Q.! I have been called a racist. I try to discuss the issues- never take a statement and twist it into something it never was. Nor belittle or attack a person's character.

My main problem with accepting anyone who comes across the border from Mexico or from Latin American countries is "why are they coming here?" I have been to Mexico several times. It is not the land of opportunity that America is but you can live quite comfortably if you get a decent education and obey the law. There are no police in the streets shooting people. We are not a war with them. How in the world are they ever going to improve themselves as a republic if everybody who doesn't like the place comes to America? Let them become political activists in their own country. I have absolutely no problem with a sensible guest worker program. If we don't have foreigners picking fruits and vegetables here, the same fruits and vegetables will be grown somewhere else and America will have to import them at higher prices. But when the picking is through, its back to the land of Montezuma for our friends from the south. That's not heartless. America is full of people who need help. Let's help them first and worry about the Mexicans later. There are tons of Africans and Chinese who live in poverty. They only reason they are not here is because there is no land bridge. I would like to see some of the people who constantly put down America immigrate illgally to Canada. Canada has a wonderful system of social services. They can go to Quebec and refuse to learn French. I respect anyone's opinion even though I differ to the point of anger. Nothing is accoplished by attacking someones character rather than their opinion. Unfortuantely, we in in a time of "the politics of destruction," which is a blight on our civil society.

I think the word "illegal" says it all. We are not against immigration. We are against doing illegal things. I have been to Canada and Mexico. Had to sign in & sign out with proof of ID, intention etc. They do not have OPEN BORDERS, yet we are expected to just let anyone come & go at their will. What about the women who come across the border, give birth at the taxpayer's expense & then have a child who is a US citizen automatically. How can we afford to support illegals? California and Texas, Florida, Arizona etc are having an awful time. We in Florida, value the migrant workers. Yes, they do a great job. So....let them come here legally and continue to work in peace, not fear. Maybe if they were legal residents, they would actually get a Driver's license and insurance, unlike the way it is now in Florida. The majority of illegal aliens drive illegally also. They also have accidents and no insurance.
I believe in Foster Children too, but I would not open my home to an ever increasing number of them, coming & going, and expect to provide for them well. There has to be some limit on immigration and to start making if harder for illegals is the first step.
Yes, most americans have an immigrant background but times have changed. Most immigrants from Europe, Asia, enter legally. It is our southern border where most of our illegals enter.
And while I am on my soap box, I think English is the first language of the USA. If people come here, they should speak English. I don't care what they speak in their homes, but know the language. I am tired of pressing 1 for English!
Illegal Immigration should not be tearing us apart, it should be resolved once and for all. It does not mean we are hatemongers if we desire a legal system for immigration & that it be enforced. I don't know what you are referencing as far as IQ and character. No one said illegals are stupid. In fact, they are just the opposite. They managed to get around the law and stay here illegally. Must have some brains to do that. As for character, I would think they would want to be here legally and actually be a citizen of this great country. Instead they go to bed wondering when they will get caught. That is the dilemma of doing something "Illegal."

You are right PtJeffersongirl, this issue is extremely important to most Americans. It is one that requires patience and respect. Those who call for security at our ports and borders are not being racist. Nationality nor skin color has nothing to do with upholding the laws of this country or wanting to be safer. There are thousands of people outside the USA that have filled out an application to come here, taken a number and are waiting patiently for their turn, some for years. I do not believe that it is fair for those who broke into America, disregarded the law, lie everyday about their status to get jobs and take any benefits meant for our citizens to have the priviledge of enjoying everything America has to offer while they wait for amnesty. The others who have done it the right way, are not able to enjoy the fruits of our country while they wait. If we need 12-20 million more people, I say, bring in those lawabiding applicants and deport the lawbreakers. I don't understand how parents could even consider leaving their child in another country. If I have to leave, my children are coming with me. We are not breaking up families, they choose to leave the kids behind. Most were born only to force a connection to this country-It is an archaeic law from long ago, being exploited today and needs to be changed. No matter where I have a child, it is still my child, American, because I am American.
To: KULPN, I believe PtJeffersongirl was refering to IQ and character attacks on herself, not illegal aliens.

The very idea that this is a "guest worker" program is ludicrous. The Senate of the United States, led by Harry Reid s attempting to ram this program thru without having it debated in public hearings where the lousy bill would be exposed for what it is, a gigantic fraud on the citizens of the U. S. These new "citizen's" would have the following benefits, incidentally, which they did not work for, Access to Social Security, access to medical facilities whether they can pay or not, (guess who pays if they don't) access to housing, (want 30 Mexicans living next door in a home designed for 5?) . Here is the bottom line, the vast majority of our "guests" have no desire to become Americans, to learn English, to swear allegiance to The United States of America, They are here for one reason and one reason only, money is the answer. Billions and Billions of US dollars are flowing back across the border into Mexico. The answer is simple, we must stop this bill in it's tracks, now. Make your desires known to your senators and congressman. Do it now. Later will be to late!!!!!!!!!!!!

The operative word here is "illegal". Additionally, social services offered and used by "illegals" is upsetting to me. In addition to this, many obtain work visas legally and stay in this country for many years building social security accounts that whem payable, go to the countries these folks "call" home for retirement there. I find that the fact our dollars are being spent in other countries a negative issue. In California, many healthcare workers earning large dollars do this and return to the Philapenes. Dollars eaned are returned to Mexico and other south american countries daily. This is wrong.
In no way does standing up for America and our values and way of life mean we degrade others. I for one find the stories of what some do to cross our borders a disturbing story and can only imagine how hard life must be to attempt to cross into this country.
Assimilation by education, learning the language and all that is offered in the US will only deter the immigrant from workng the farms and lands. Yet, with assimilation, our respect and acceptance is earned.
Catch 22. Yes. Human Rights are important, but as someone else said, our own families deserve the dollars to improve and develope those folks. We need to provide our own good healthcare and education.
So what do we do?

Jeffersongirl, It seems to me that you advocate inforcement of the law in its present form. We are a country based on the rule of law. There is no way to disagree with your position; that is why name calling and the like is the only option left for some one who disagrees with you. If they do not like the law as it is, the burden is on them to get a change. They may insult you and resort to name calling without foundation but you are in a position to call them anarchists because, by definition, that is exactly what they are.
But there is another level to this issue and we all know that. Democrats know that children of illegals are citizens and will vote democrat. Republicans pick up about 35% of the Latino vote and do not want to offend leagal immigrant voters. So the House and Senate play a two faced game, they want to please you and not offend Legals at the same time. It is of course an impossible game and the only course left is to do nothing. I expect the future to hold the same, nothing.
When I retired, I could have moved anywhere I wanted. Arizona would have been perfect, save the problem with illegals. I do not want to pay taxes for services that go to people who did not play by the rules as I have. At first, Florida seemed too 20th Century, if you will, for retirement. However central Fl. and a small town, has met my requirements for the Golden Years. When its time to take your money and move some where warm, there are two choices. The Southwest where you get to pay for illegals, or the Southeast where the problem is less "taxing".

I, for one, and sure that not all illegals are Mexicans, but, since we have no idea of who is actually here, how can we tell what percent is what? Some cities have actually made it unlawful for the police to ask about immigration status when making an arrest. I can only say, what part of ILLEGAL is it that people have trouble understanding? The guest worker program is just amnesty in a different colored rapper. They are not paying into the system, but seem to be taking the greatest amount out of it. Not against immigration, and most people in this country have some sort of family that immigrated, unless you are Native American. They raided a company not too far from here last week and found over 80 illegals working in the factory, not all Mexican, and people seemed to be surprised that it was going on. If the people who employ these illegal workers were subject to losing their business, spending time in jail, losing personal possessions, would they not think about where their employees are coming from , and the immigration status?

The Walgreen's across the street also has a large Spanish language banner on it's building, reminding Spanish speakers to sign up for Medicare. I could go on, but the point is that Corporate America is not going to ignore 12-20 million of anything that makes & spends money. Corporate America cannot trace it's heritage back to 1776, does not care who lives next-door and won't be hurt when an illegal takes your job. Corporate America has all the Congressmen it can buy, and without our constant reminders those Congressmen are going to vote the way they have been paid to vote.
I've seen my city trashed by those "new to the country" who do not share our values, much less our language & history. Becoming an American is a privilege, but why bother when Congress is giving away citizenship rights without all the fuss of due process? E-mail Congress and tell them to stop this latest attempt at legislating immigration, enforce the 1986 statutes, and most of all, close the border!! We all speed from time to time and that is breaking the law also. What we need to do is try to discuss ways of solving the problem that exists. We all know what the problem is and we have stated it ad nauseum. What do we do now? Do we ship out 12 to 20 million people to their original homelands? If we cannot do so what do we do? I did not refer to anyone as a racist although I would if I felt like it but that would not solve the situation. Let us discuss how we solve it and get beyond 'they are taking our social security' because that is not happening. They do not pay income tax but they pay sales tax and cannot draw any social security. They work for all of us at lower wages and if they committ any crimes they are arrested and most times they are deported. Again I say there are Englishmen and Germans and Frenchmen and even Canadians here illegally and if we don't know who they are how do we know that they are here? Lets calm down and see if we can come up with a way to solve this crisis rather than calling others names and questioning our rights to comment. How about discussing solutions?

Ok, obent77, here's one solution: deport ALL those who have come here illegally, give them an application as they leave-tell them to follow the American Law!
If we need 12-20 million workers (which I doubt) then let in those who applied legally and have been waiting their turn.
Those who broke the law (and by the way-has taught that to their children) should not be granted the right to enjoy all that America has to offer, while they wait to be made legal. While lawabiding applicants have to continue waiting patiently outside this country.

I care about the environment, am for separation of church and state, believe in evolution and am open-minded about many things; yet, if you believe the pundits on both the left and the right I am a narrow-minded, xenophobic racist. Wrong! (1) To have a sovereign country you need to have a border. (2) If you believe in supply and demand and you create a condition for an endless supply of labor, you will depress wages to point of strangling the middle-class (which is well under way, cough, cough). (3) Cheap tomatoes sounds like a good deal, but the taxpayer pays heavily for those tomatoes in medical costs (free health care at emergency rooms at $500-$800) per visit, free education for kids of illegals (and legal immigrants, mind you) at the cost of about 7 to 10 thousand dollars per kid, per year, social costs, legal costs, community lifestyle costs, and much, more. Are those tomatoes worth it? And, even if they are, you may note that farmers can't even attract illegals, given the construction and other industries paying more money for less strenuous work--sometimes much more money (but less than they used to pay legal citizens who are now out of work). (4) the bleeding heart phenomena (and I a'int one of those) goes something like: we as world citizens need to open our land to anyone that we consider less fortunate than we are. Uh, does that mean that bleeding hearts will bear the burden of this graciousness? Uh, no, the bleeders want to force everyone to bleed. If you ask them, including George Bush, how they would feel if I moved into their house and partook of their good fortune because they had more and had it easier than me, they would have me arrested, but what is really the difference on a collective level. The excuse by liberals and ethnic apologists is "they want a better life". The excuse by the business class is globalization. That sounds good, but I wonder if the journalists, pundits, CEOs, politicians, and economists, would be so sanguine if we could replace them with esteemed and competent professionals from India and China at one tenth the cost. Geez, Time magazine for only a quarter, what a deal! (5) Environmentally, the world is overpopulated already. An environmentally concerned person who thinks with the brain instead of the politically correct, social justice template of groups like the Sierra Club, realizes that many undeveloped countries, like Mexico, Haiti, and others, unable to support the population they have with their economy, unwilling to tell people to have children only if they can support them, just export them to sucker countries in the West. Florida has a very big problem finding enough water for the population. Is that stopping the developers, business interests, politiicians, and Latino/Cuban pressure groups from promoting building, growth and a come-on-down/up mentality? No sir, it does not.
It is so simple and so easy to use labels--xenophobe, racist. Those, I am not. But tyrannical, I would be to those who want to sell our country out and deprive my descendants of the probability of a decent life in a demographically stable United States.

There is a group right around the corner from me and I do mean group. It's one small townhouse with 2 bedrooms but there are at least 15 people there at any given time.
I took a friend to the hospital and there were 2 girls both pregnant filling out forms for healthcare but since they couldn't speak english the hospital was scurrying around to find some one who could help them. I think that we must start with the obvious. We must secure our borders. All the borders, Canada as well. After that is done, we must enforce the laws that are already on the books. If there are no jobs in this country for anyone without the correct papers, then it would make sense they will quit coming. All companies, big and small must be held accountable. Make it very expensive to hire an illegal, from any country. Companies that own apartment complexes and rental homes must be held accountable when they lease to an illegal. Again, if they don't have any where to live here they will quit coming. I think that anyone who can't show the correct paperwork is not entitled to any government handouts. This includes mothers walking into a hospital 2 minutes before the baby arrives. All care should be taken to see that she is cared for until she and the baby can be deported. No instant citizenship. Once again, if these young women know they will be deported and not gain anything for the child they will quit coming here. I also think that if a police officer pulls over ANYONE he should be allowed and obligated to ask for what ever paperwork is necessary. I will get off my soap box now with this one personal comment on my part. I have to mention that I really get worked up when I hear the likes of Harry Reid call illegal aliens, "Undocumented Americans"! NO NO NO! There is just such thing! You are an American or your not. For the North American Union to come into full swing, America has to become bankrupt. The borders will remain open for these purposes. Some people just can't see the importance to closing our borders. Once we become one with Canada and Mexico, we will be seeing Bush sr. One World Order come into the picture. I just hope this coalition holds together and we get a bill that improves border security only, establishes a verifiable and public method to prove it, not just once but periodically (say every 6 months). After that is established we can deal with the next issue, what to do with the illegals here and the businesses that employ them. I wish to share an editorial in today's Tulsa World. This is one of the better commentaries that I have read in terms of its levelheadedness. It mentions some of our local politicians but I share it with you:
DOES ANYONE HAVE A PLAN?
Here are questions that have been asked in this space of our congressional delegation many times, but they are worth asking again and again: If the illegal immigration problem can be solved what is your exact plan? Further, what is to be done with the 12 million, maybe more, illegals already here?
Those same questions were recently posed by Tulsa World Washington Bureau reporter Jim Myers to Sen. Jim Inhofe and First District Rep. John Sullivan and he didn't get a good answer either.
Concerning some sort of system to send illegals back to Mexico before they could pursue legal status, Inhofe said: "I think they should, but you know we are getting in more detail than I am comfortable with." He further told Myers that the issue is a "very difficult thing."
Yes, senator, it is. But senators and congressmen deal with difficult things every day. That's what we elect them and pay them for. And this difficult thing didn't simply pop up yesterday. It's been brewing for years. It is possibly the hottest and most polarizing issue in this political season.
The senator also said: "There is not a way to send people back -- first of all to identify them and secondly to send them back."
Sending them back is what most of the anti-immigration faction seems to think is necessary. And as much as they say they would welcome them as legals, it's hard to believe them.
Sullivan has been a vocal critic of President George Bush's comprehensive plan that continues to linger in Congress with little chance of passage.
His response to Myers' questions: "Well, they got here. I think they need to get home."
OK, congressman. Exactly how do you plan to do that? How many federal agents will it take to first find and then round up millions of illegal immigrants? Do we simply arrest every Hispanic, legal or not, give them some sort of badge and then put them all in camps until we sort out the legals from the illegals? Do we deport the children born in the United States and are thereby legal citizens along with their parents?
Once they are deported, how many border patrol agents and how long and high a fence will we need to keep them from returning?
The sad truth is that few, if any, politicians have any real answers to the illegal immigration problem. Unfortunately, too many politicians are playing to the vocal wings of their parties who don't really care about real solutions but simply want end what they call an "invasion."
What we get are platitudes. All a politician has to do is echo the hardline by damning "amnesty" and condemning "open borders" and being horrified over "sanctuary cities" and the votes fall in line.
Will any of our elected delegation address specifics? Maybe not, because they know that there are few alternatives other than some sort of amnesty to get control of a problem that is placing a burden on our social services as well as causing a serious rift in this country.
Even Bush's controversial proposal has serious flaws. But give the president credit for at least trying to do something.
It's not just politicians who seem confused or evasive. A recent Gallup Poll showed that 60 percent of the people who have followed the president's immigration plan oppose it. An April USA Today/Gallup poll, however, reported that only 14 percent of those asked wanted to send illegal immigrants back to Mexico with no hope of returning.
It must be clear to even the most politically motivated of politicians that we are not going to be able to just get rid of 12 million illegal immigrants. Therefore, a solution must be found.
Of course, illegals are putting a strain on social services. Most illegals use high-cost emergency rooms for medical care. There, they know that they will not be refused help and that no paper trail will be established that could lead to their deportation. Giving them some sort of legal status could help ease that problem.
But to say that a group that makes up about 5 percent of the total U.S. workforce contributes nothing is untrue and foolish. They pay sales taxes and, directly or indirectly, property taxes. Most, of course, pay no federal income tax or Social Security tax because most are paid in cash. But neither are most of them collecting Social Security or Medicare because most are not old enough and won't be for quite a while.
Giving them some sort of legal status could help solve that problem also.
The issues in this problem are many and difficult. No one expects a perfect solution. But we ought to expect our politicians to take the time to seriously consider the problem and come up with some fair and workable solutions.
We ought to expect more of them than mere pandering to vocal voting blocs. But maybe that's too much to ask for.

I want to answer the question posed by the pro-illegal correspondents in this thread (who echo the likes of Bush, McCain and media pundits). The issue they voice is "what are you gonna do with 12 million illegal aliens." This red herring question is posed in that way to humiliate and cow the average and presumably kind-hearted American so as not be seem like a jack-booted thug who would round up terrified families, put them in jails and then cattle cars to toss them across the border.
The actual answer is simple: You do not need to round up anybody. Illegal immigrants will leave on their own. Why would they do that? If there are no jobs and no services, there is no way the normal person could or would stay here. What you need to do to effect that is enforce existing law against employers and enact new laws for those individuals and municipalities that hire and/or harbor illegals. So called sanctuary cities should have any federal or state tax support withdrawn in equal measure to the cost of services to illegals (the cost of medical, social service, and education are huge and would quickly get the attention of taxpayers--even in San Francisco). Would there be pockets of folks who manage to stay here? probably, but the numbers would be small.
Let me address one more issue. When I see the number 12 million quoted by defenders of illegal immigration, I immediately feel that I know the template through which these people see the issue. When you look at most of the statistics on the number of illegals here, you generally get the number 12-20 million, sometimes up to 30 million. So why not split to the middle and say 16 million? The answer seems to be to be one of intellectual honesty--the low ball figure is less alarming and if your position is pro-illegal you will pick and choose numbers that are less damaging to your position. At what point does an influx of outsiders become alarming? 50 million? That figure is in play already as a probability given the current legislation. What about 100, 200, 500 million? There are many special interest groups, advocates, and church leaders that do not see these numbers as problems. And that...that should be a clarion call to the rest of us.

Zotzic is right! there are 1100 measures in State and local governments passed or pending to lower benefits, increase deterrents and go after employers hiring illegals. States are fed up with the Feds ineptness. Example: Arizona's State legislative bodies have both passed by large majorities a measure that will permanently take away a company's business license on the second offense of knowingly hiring an illegal. If our Governor vetoes it we have a ballot proposition that is even tougher to put on the next ballot.
My Dad used to say "It all depends on whose ox is being gored!" Mr. President and Senators we have news for you. The vast majority of the American people know that their ox is being gored and if you won't do anything about it, we will.

Wait just a minute. This is not Harry Reid's bill - it is George W. Bush's bill. It is his Republican right-wingers in the Senate who would rather NOT have a bill than to have one they disapprove of. Let's let the blame lie where it should and that is with Bush. He has *winked* his eye for the last almost 8 years at the illegal problem, and so let's not blame this situation on Harry Reid or the Democrats. Also remember, the other last great failed immigration bill was signed under the great Ronald R. Reagan - a lot of good that one did.
"The Senate of the United States, led by Harry Reid s attempting to ram this program thru without having it debated in public hearings where the lousy bill would be exposed for what it is, a gigantic fraud on the citizens of the U. S."

Zotic & Estoban have it right, if the Feds won't enforce their own laws the states must do it for them. Governors Napolitano (AZ) and Richardson (NM) recently signed a letter to Dubya begging him to just keep his promises to these states that are bleeding money trying to keep up with social services and enforcement. Instead, Dubya approved a State Department plan to cherrypick the Border Patrol and send them to Iraq (with $26k signing bonuses and $136K upon return) to train Iraqis to enforce their own borders.
The Federal Government may have forgotten us but our National Guard is local and they are as affected by this as the rest of us. Bring them back from Iraq and send them to ALL of our borders for enforcement.

Today my brain is working so today I will speak. This is a volatile issue and almost everyone has an opinion on it. That is a good thing if all of your information is correct. Before I make the rest of my comment I would like to say that I believe that we need secure friendly boarders and we need do know who is in this country if they were not born here. Most of us are daughter and sons to a degree, of immigrants. Where would you be if your ancestors had not come or been brought here? How many of us know if our ancestors came here legally or illegally.
First of all the comment that there are no police in the streets shooting people is false. Not only are there police in the streets there are people being arrested for unfounded charge (some Americans), people being stopped on the streets and intimidated for bribes (common in Mexico), people being beheaded and heads and bodies showing up in public places as warnings to the police who are not corrupt, drug dealers running cities (with the protection of the police), thousands of women being murdered with no one held responsible that is whole other story). I can add more but it will be too long. The drug dealers intimidate and sometimes force poor people to do things in order to protect their families. As of a few months ago many cities now are under military control, Juarez, being one of them. The military is in the street and very visible.
The only the drug dealers have so much power in Mexico or any other country is because of the demand for their product; and the United States is the biggest offender when it comes to Mexico and most of the South American countries. Stop buying or make it legal and they won’t have any money or power.
The government provides a 6th grade education in Mexico. Children are required to go to school, if the is one close enought for you to attend.? After that you have to pay. I am not so sure how much money one can make on a 6th grade. The Indian population in Mexico is much larger than that of the United States and the villages are much more remote. Education here is sparse in some areas. Paying for an education in Mexico is for the wealthy.
Relations with Mexico have become strained over this issue and a few others. If we lock ourselves up behind walls we will surely choke and die while the global marketplace thrives around us. Where is the security in that? One would think that we would be making our closest neighbors our closest ally’s that is only common sense. With Hugo Chaves trying to mobilize South America against the US we are going to need all the friends we can get. He just announced today that he is mobilizing his military in anticipation of a US attack for their oil. This man had been trying to create his own little USSR in South America and is making a lot of progress. He influences elections with his money from his oil profits that we are paying for. Last year he tried to create havoc in Mexico by claiming that the elections were rigged and that Lopez who he was supporting with money should have won. Things are so bad for the poor in Mexico that the uneducated people believe what he is saying and the government is no help because for many many years the poor have been ignored. We need Mexico as a partner in this world not an enemy, as an equal not a lesser nation. We should be seen as heroes to the poor of Mexico because if we are not Hugo Chavez will surely make himself their hero. That is how communism is kept alive. Always rember there are basically two classes of people in Mexico, very wealty or very poor.
True there are many impoverished Africans and Chinese in the world but the African’s and Chinese do not have a potential to help protect this country’s boarders. African’s and Chinese do not serve in the American military in the numbers that Hispanics, particularly Mexicans, do. Many of there young soldiers take the chance of dying for this country without the promise of compensation for their families that American soldiers have.
On a purely selfish note, we need workers, we need immigrants. We need more people who want to become citizens of this country. We need more guest workers. The stagnant population growth of this country will not sustain Social Security, period. Now we either throw that baby out or we find a new source of money. As a matter of fact the Hispanic population is growing faster that any other group in this country. These are the children who are going to be paying for my Social Security and my daughter’s Social Security. I think the reason that the issue of amnesty is given any thought is because this country enticed most of these people to stay here and didn’t do anything about it at the time. I know for a fact that in Ohio years ago many migrant workers were brought to the United States to work legally and illegally. One of the major soup companies decided to build a plant in the area and hired these workers at wages that seemed very high to them. They stayed and have lived here, some for 20 years. This is true inn just about every state in this country to some degree. Companies hire illegal workers all the time. If you do not want them here do not hire them and fine companies thousands of dollars for doing so. Make it worth their while not to hire them. On another note it is going to cost a fortune to find everyone who is not legal.
If your children were starving (and believe me you have no idea what that means) you would do what ever you had to fee them. That includes crossing miles of desert on foot over mountains sometimes to get a chance to allow them to survive. Many have been found dead in the last few years, some of them whole families.
What ever your position on this issue do not fool yourself or let any else fool you in to believing that these people come her for no reason or that we do not need them. I hope that this issue is resolved soon and for the best for our country and for out friends across the boarder. Peace and Love to All of You and God Bless America.

Adding my own two cents......WELL WHAT ARE YOU ALL GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS? Are you going to vote out the incuments from your state? Are you willing to do your research and support candidates who support our constitution. Far to often we complain about another states congressman but not our own. I live in Georgia, we have two senators who voted against closure, they had started to support the bill before congress, but then they remembered that this state will vote you out in a heartbeat. I personally think far to many people think the democrats came into power because people liked what they were saying, I think just the opposite, we let them in to scare the republicans. Problem is, it didn't work. We still have the status qou. I say we start taking the white shoe polish and write on our back windows 'VOTE THEM ALL OUT'. When they no longer sit in power we will be better off. This country needs to put a lot of what the federal government has been doing back into the states hands. That is how our nation was born, as a republic, not a democracy.
We cannot deport the immigrants. But we should bring back out soldiers from the world we police and protect all our borders. Yes we start with Mexico but lets not forget that the attorney with TB crossed over from Canada. And then we start acting like our parents. We save our money, we buy american. The internet gives us so much power, but our pockets give us much more. When I walk in and the staff is speaking in a foreign language, I walk out.
We can talk about this all day long, but actions speak louder than words......so tell me, what are you all actually doing about this? Email, good. Actual letters even better. Tie up their fax machines. Call their staff and pester them. And if they keep on misbehaving.....VOTE THEM OUT. SAY NO TO INCUMBENCY!!! I do not want to exclude any law abiding human being from the opportunity to make legal entry into this country. I do have difficulty with hordes of people flooding into this country without regard to the laws of the land to which they are emigrating. We are a country based on the rule of law and citizenship requires obeying those laws. Criminals, for instance, lose their right to vote. Why should we reward those who have come here with total disregard to our Constitution? That having been said, however, I also do not propose that we have a mass round up of the millions who are already here. I do, however, think that they ought to be required to make themselves legal. Those who do not come forward in such a manner ought to be then turned in and deported.
This country has largely been built with the labor of immigrants but immigrants who have chosen to arrive here legally, to follow the rule of law and who have eventually added their distinctiveness to our culture but who have also chosen to accomodate themselves to the traditions and heritage of the United States. We are all richer for the legacy of our legal immigrants and I urge our governement to find a way to help thjose who want to stay here to do so legally. Those who do not want to make that effort ought not to be allowed to stay here. Make yourself legal or leave.

We would be better off if Congress took a permanent vacation; at least, they wouldn't be passing stupid bills and spending taxpayers' money.
Anyway, about illegal immigration, whatever happened to the immigration requirement that one must have a sponsor who guarantees for two years that the immigrant will be gainfully employed and no end up on the social services roles??? I married an immigrant from Denmark, and that was a requirement in the 1950s and 1960s. It was a good thing.
Perhaps we should use the laws of Mexico when dealing with illegal Mexican immigrants, or whichever country they come from. No country allows you to just walk in and stay. And no country drops their native tongue and speaks English when they see you coming. We are not alone with the illegal immigration problem; Europe has land bridges to many third-world countries, and they are about to sink from their problems. Our current tax base can't support such largesse. How is that going to save social security?
Negative population growth is in fact good for the planet and for our quality of life. Our economy and the world's economy is based on the Ponzi scheme of increasing growth to fund past obligations. There is now a movement starting to look at ways to develop a sustainable world based on a sustainable economy. Hopefully our Senators will take a stand today for their constituents at home. BTW, the American Bald Eagle has been taken off the endangered species list, can we say the same for the American Middle Class?

We just won this battle, the amnesty bill has been stopped! But, be wary, this dragon is wounded, not dead, it will be back for another battle.

Right, now if they will only listen to us and get that darn border secured first, and soon.
Then we can discuss the rest. I'm afraid to hear on the news that some city has been attacked with a chemical, biological or nuke weapon from some people who entered illegally.

Give yourselves a pat on the back! The people's voice was heard over the jingle of corporate gold. Now grab your Claymores, the best is yet to come.

Yes we need to secure our borders, go after employers, cut off any public aid to the illegals, and their paychecks.

It is important for us to continue to make our voices heard and heard loudly. Illegal supporters march en masse as a horde of thousands, waving Mexican and Marxist flags and demanding, demanding, demanding. No reciprocal response with any meaningful numbers has ever occurred. This needs to change. We need to educate our fellow citizens and fence sitters on the adverse impacts and we need to keep the memory of those politicians who tried to screw us over this issue and make sure they do not get re-elected.
It is this simple: If you are a politician that votes the interest of middle-class Americans you are actively against illegal immigration; If you are a politician that votes for special ethnic or business interests you are for "comprehensive immigration reform."

Don't feel that way, I was Legal immigrated to the US and became a citizen, many years ago. I had to learn English, I didn't see signs in "Polish", my parents struggled but learned the language. Remember one word that our elected officals do not understand, Illegal! If that immigration bill passed that entitled 12-20 million immigrates to social security benifits, which would put the system 2 Trillion dollars in the hole. Our children will never see S.S.?

This was sent to me:
conversation between a Customer and Bank of America
Bank: This is the Bank of America, can I help you?
Customer: Yes, I want to cancel my account. I don't want to do business with you any longer.
Bank: May I ask why, sir?
Customer: You're giving credit to illegal immigrants and I don't think it's right. I'm taking my business elsewhere.
Bank: Well, Mr. Customer, we don't want to see you do that, but we can't stop you. I'll help you close the account.
What is your account
number?
Customer: (gives account number)
Bank: For security purposes and for your protection, can you please give me the last four digits of your social security number?
Customer: No.
Bank: Mr. Customer, I need to verify your information, but in order to help you, I'll need verification of who you are.
Customer: Why should I give you my social security number? The reason I'm closing my account is that your bank is issuing credit cards to illegal immigrants who don't have social security numbers. You are targeting that audience and want their business. Let's say I'm an illegal immigrant and you've given me a credit card. I have a question about it and call for assistance. You wouldn't be asking me for a Social Security number, would you?
Bank: No sir, I wouldn't.
Customer: Why not?
Bank: Because you would have pressed '2' to speak in Spanish. We don't ask for that information when calling in on the Spanish line.
CHECK THIS OUT ON SNOPES! IT'S TRUE!...

I believe we all need to flood our Senators, Congressmen, Governors and anyone else in power and let them know how we feel. If enough people will take a stand something well have to be done. With next year being an election year it's a good time to start putting the pressure on our officials. We need to also be careful who we vote for, study and see how they have voted in the past on this issue...because as you well know they'll say anything now that their runing for Office.

I was going to put my 2cents in, but after reading all the threads I think you all have very good points. It is time to take action and quit talking about it. Obviously this is one issue the Feds will have to address. We have been too lax on entry into this country and were bit in the butt with 911. Aren't any off you stilll angry about that?
If I missed something about illegal,i'm sorry but doesn't the act of coming here illegally, and getting caught, isn't that against the law. Further time and again we are asked by these foreign speaking folks, legals and illegals,if we speak their language becuz they haven't learned English. What the Hey!
If we were in their homeland we would be expected to learn not only the language but also the culture.
No, I'm sorry America we have to stop all this non essential foregin policy spending and take care our own people. It is high time we start to hammer at our reps in all levels of government to stop this insane behavior and give back America to Americans.
It is time for change in America.Whether we do it through the voting in November or through our elected reps we must keep on this issue so it does not get swept under the rug.
