What is Thanksgiving? It has become the day to stuff our faces with more calories than we need, and get ready to shop come Friday morning.

But in my mind, this is the day that I get to cook and show my skills in making a traditional meal more within our calorie needs, and spend time with my family.

It's a day to slow down, turn off the TV (***GASP!***) and reflect on our life so far and what's to come.

What am I thankful for? So many things.

I have a wonderful husband who is tolerant of my quirks and love of horses. He has endured my owning my horse and sometimes spending more time with the horse than with him. He has "Babysat" me through 2 injuries and being immobile. He has treated me like a princess even when I may have not deserved it.

My mom is healthy and getting around after breaking her neck in a bad car roll over. My sisters and brothers are all healthy. I can't be home this holiday, but I am still wishing I could be. I am there in spirit.

This year has been rough health wise. Robert had another TIA, and this one left some damage behind. I had a fall on Easter that layed me up for 6 weeks due to a sever concussion that landed me in the emergency room. I am still recovering from knee surgery to the cartilage in my knee. I hope to start riding again come Christmas. Meanwhile, I am watching others ride him.

I am lucky. I know I am. This is what I'm thankful for.

The current financial crisis? Like other things I'll find a way to survive. I have a good advisor who is working closely with me to keep me on track. I am still optimistic.
