A while back, when I had to have my cat, Stinky, put down after 14 years, I swore I'd never get another cat. That was before my remaining kitty, Myler More, would roam the house at night, pitifully meowing and looking for his sister. It was also before I browsed the local Humane Society's web page.
I don't know what made me go look at the cats up for adoption, but I did, and there on page 4 was a beautiful black cat named Jackie, who was the spitting image of Stinky. Do I need to tell you that I was there that same night, meeting her and starting the adoption process?
The night before I was to pick her up (after her spaying and microchip implanting), I dreamed her name: Sookie. Soon after I got her home, she came down with a nasty upper respiratory infection, so she and Myler had to stay separated for two weeks so he wouldn't get sick. Sookie stayed in the bathroom, which contained her bed, her litter box and numerous cat toys. Several trips to the vet later, she was pronounced healthy and so started the process of introducing the two cats.
A few days of hissing and growling, and the two started to get along. Each was rewarded with treats each time they were together and there was no fighting. Sookie soon discovered Dylan, the cockatiel and became fixated on the bird.
Sookie is a little love-bug. She loves being petted and makes the sweetest little pring-prang-prit sounds. She also loves to play fetch with her mousie. Don't believe me, check out the photo.
I'm glad I found another kitty to love. It helps to fill the hole in my heart.

I never realized what animals do for us. I can't imagine life without them now.
