What did you do on this day
What did your deeds and actions say
Many of our daughters and our sons
Are not out having days of peace and fun

While we sit and watch a local team
In front the TV while we sit and scream
Their lot is not such an easy peaceful life
Theirs is one filled with death and strife

How many times did you think today
Of their sacrifices so very very far away
When you awoke with your family there
Did you stop to give thanks and say a prayer

We assume freedom has no real cost
But for the actions of those there, it could all be lost
To live this life that we think comes for free
They put their lives on the line for you and me

They go because they have heard a higher call
They go to secure and protect us one and all
They put their lives and dreams upon the shelf
They epitomize the definition oh so well, of Not Self
