Digital Mammography
Mammography is a low dose x-ray examination of the breasts. It creates images of the breast tissue that can be read for signs of breast cancer. Digital mammography is a state-of-the-art mammographic technique which replaces traditional x-ray film.
Although the examination experience is the same for the patient, digital mammograms are interpreted by the radiologist on a computer monitor. The images are immediately accessible, can be manipulated for better visibility, involve lower average doses of radiation, and are easily stored and transferred. Digital mammography has been reported to be more accurate in cancer detection in women under 50 years of age, women with dense breasts, and premenopausal and perimenopausal women.
