My husband's family lived in the Kansas City area at the time that our second child was born in 1976. At that time, we thought that I would be returning to the paying work force, so we decided to take our sons to be seen by my in-laws. As we were heading home to San Antonio, our oldest son announced(and this will be no surprise to any parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or even cousin, sibling or casual acquaintance) that he had to use the restroom.
I guess that it's a "guy" thing, but my husband didn't want to stop. We had a disposable cup from a fast food place that Mike handed to me for our son to "use"
I handed it to Michael(4-yrs-old) in the back seat to deal with his problem. It was a success. I was just going to put the lid back on the cup, but Nooooooo, Mike wanted to get rid of it. Cruising down the interstate, he tossed the contents of the cup out of the driver's side window, not considering the slip-stream of the vehicle at highway speed. Of course, we took the next exit that had a truck stop so that he could clean up.
Once back on the road, Mike listened to the CB radio. Not hearing any smokey reports, he put the pedal to the metal(And, yes, we were that geeky and used the lingo). Wasn't long at all, when he saw the flashing lights in the rear view mirror. It was one of El Dorado, KS finest. After checking Mike's drivers license and seeing that we were, not only out of town, but out of state, he said that Mike would ride with him and I would have to follow them to the police station. Mike was "arrested" and had to pay $40 bail, which was coincidentally the amount of the speeding fine. He was told that he needed to appear in court on a certain date. We got back on the road and Mike stuck to the speed limit, at least until we got to Oklahoma.
Needless to say, we stayed out of Kansas until the statute of limitations had run out.
