Has anyone noticed that Jay Leno, in his opening monologue, almost never makes a joke about Obama. He has plenty to say about John McCain and Sarah Palin. He also makes fun of Bill and Hillary Clinton, so it can't be a Republican/Democrat thing.
I went to the NBC web site to post a comment but found that other people had noticed this also and made the point better than I could have. Leno deals in topical humor and Sarah Palin is the "buzz" right now but his avoidance of Obama jokes is patently obvious and reveals his political leanings.
Since I tivo Jay Leno, I watched last night's show this morning and he actually did make a joke about Obama's fund-raising event in Hollywood ($28,500 a plate), but Obama jokes are still few and far between. He made 7 or 8 jokes about McCain/Palin.
A little more even-handedness is all I ask.

The political views of late-night comedians are no longer a laughing matter. In January 2004 a study released by the Pew Research Center found that 21 percent of 18-to-29-year-olds turn to comedy TV shows for their "news" during political campaigns, as do eight percent of all Americans. Witness the Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
Quote from Leno himself:
"Look, you don't change anybody's mind with comedy," Leno told the L.A. Weekly. "You just reinforce what they already believeā¦. I'm just here to tell the joke. I really don't have any personal ax to grind. And I try to keep a sense of fair play (Huh?). This is not a bully pulpit." (Oh really!)
