THE ALLERGY MODEL OF DISEASE
by Dr. Ricky BS, DC, NMD

The cause of disease in the earliest times was understood by the original physicians / priests as being the consequence of sin and evil thoughts; by the Chinese barefoot doctors as being the result of imbalances of the five main elements that make up the world that exist within the body; throughout the middle ages it was thought to be because of imbalances of the four vitreous humors [fluids of the body - 1. phlegm or water; 2. blood; 3. black bile or gall (secreted by the kidneys and spleen); and 4. yellow bile or cholor (secreted by the liver)].
In 1858, Rudolf Virchow published his formative book, Cellularpathologie, in which he persuasively set forth the cellular basis of pathology that remains the currently accepted model of disease. In his later years Virchow stated, "If I could live my life over again, I would devote it to proving that germs seek their natural habitat--diseased tissues--rather than causing disease."
Louis Pasteur (1822-1895) and Paul Ehrlich (1854-1915) are generally credited with giving the civilized world the theoretical disease doctrines of microbiology and immunology that predominate today. Pasteur himself was reported to have admitted on his deathbed that, "Claude Bernard was right--the microbe is nothing, the terrain is everything."
Perhaps we should keep an open mind about some of the beliefs that are widely accepted today, for the science of tomorrow may look upon them as backward and foolish as modern scientists consider the model of disease being the result of sin and evil thoughts. Or maybe we should re-evaluate any given condition from each of the previously used models.
Devi Nambudripad (the developer of N.A.E.T.) proposed in her book "Say Goodbye To Illness" that allergic reactions from the immune system toward different substances could be at least partly responsible for the manifestation of the different diseases. The immune system certainly has specific types of limitations in the way it identifies and reacts to foreign organisms and aberrant cells from the tissues of the person's own body. While these immune reactions do sometimes fit the accepted parameters of what has traditionally been referred to as an "allergy" (with the production of immuno-globulins specific for a particular allergen), many of these reactions do not fit with the accepted traditional model of allergies (either because the body's reactions are in the early stages, or these reactions are somehow inherently different from the traditionally allergic response) - hence our use of the terms "sensitivity" and "allergy" will be much more broad than the previously accepted definitions.

THAT ALLERGIC REACTIONS BY THE IMMUNE SYSTEM TO DIFFERENT SUBSTANCES (ALLERGINS) COULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MANIFESTATION OF THE DIFFERENT DISEASES IS A SIGNIFICANT NEW PARADYGM IN OUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE DISEASE PROCESS !!!

It is universally accepted that the immune system uses a process called "memory" in its work to protect the body. This is occurring on a cellular and tissue level, not as a function of the conscious mind as the term "memory" usually indicates. In order for this process to occur on ANY level, it is obvious that there must first have occurred something called "LEARNING". Neither of these processes (memory nor learning) is infallible. Cancer results when abnormal cells from the host organism are NOT correctly identified as unhealthy by the immune system and are allowed to propagate. When the immune system recognizes to late that these abnormal and unhealthy cells have taken a foothold in the body, they are usually isolated and surrounded by a protective protein coating from the rest of the body (called a tumor). When a "normal, simple tissue sample" called a "biopsy" is performed, the protein shield is penetrated and disrupted, allowing the cancer cells to leak out into the rest of the body by way of the blood or lymph systems, which sets the stage for metastases of the cancer. By their own admission, over 50% of all conditions being treated today by doctors are "iatrogenic", meaning caused by the doctor, the medications, or in some way by the treatment for some other condition. ALL drugs have side effects, and it is obvious that one side effect of invasive diagnostic procedures like biopsies is the risk of the more rapid spread of cancer to the rest of the body.
Another "glitch" in the immune system process of an allergic reaction is what could be called "friendly fire"- when normal, healthy tissue (or a non-threatening foreign substance) is incorrectly attacked by the immune system. One example of this involves the case of allergic reactions to cow's milk and dairy products. The immune system produces rather specific antibodies for allergens and invading organisms, but dairy products involve a rather large range of slightly different modifications of the exact protein structures and make-up of the target cells. There is milk, butter, yogurt, literally hundreds of different kinds of cheeses, etcetera, that all are derived from casein protein based products. The beta cells of the pancreas bear a striking resemblance to the protein chain from dairy, and in some individuals the immune system attacks those normal, healthy cells by mistake. The result is type I diabetes. It is an interesting side note that it has been clinically observed that 100% of children who develop type I diabetes have some form of dairy allergy, while not every child with a dairy allergy develops type I diabetes. The implication, of course, is that EVERY CHILD SHOULD BE TESTED AND TREATED FOR DAIRY ALLERGIES in order to prevent the unnecessary development of type I diabetes.
"Friendly fire" also occurs in many other instances for a variety of reasons. Yes, these are mistakes by the immune system. What we call "disease" is not exactly normal from the very beginning. ALL conditions known to be "auto-immune" involve allergic reactions by the immune system to some part or parts of the person's own body. Arthritis, lupus, Chron's disease, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, and a host of other modern diseases are auto-immune diseases.
This misfiring of the immune system can be the body's protective reaction to traumatic exposure to petro-chemicals, synthetic hormones, drugs, heavy metals, or a wide variety of other toxins and poisons. Dr. Ellen Cutler (the developer of Bio-SET) observed that in certain individuals where these toxins and poisons have been delivered to the body via the blood system, the immune system has actually produced a sensitivity to the person's own blood. This over-reaction is tantamount to "throwing the baby out with the bath water". This sensitivity to blood disrupts the very fabric of the entire metabolism, and can result in a wide variety of symptoms. Dr. Cutler observed that these patients do not respond favorably to treatments unless and until the sensitivity to the blood is first addressed. She developed a complete, prioritized, scientific approach (called Bio-SET) to identifying and treating these immune system over-reactions which is much more focused than the previously existing method for identifying and treating them (called N.A.E.T.).
This process of "learning" which things are antigens, and which aren’t is something that the immune system is constantly reviewing in order to protect the body and maintain health. The allergy elimination techniques of N.A.E.T. and Bio-SET are elegant methods of assisting the immune system to "self-correct". Allergic reactions to non-toxic, non-threatening substances are simply altered by the specific activation of the energy of the immune system while that substance is within the energy field of the individual. There are several possible interferences that can disrupt this self-correction mechanism, and the techniques must be performed correctly in order for them to be effective. Some practitioners of these techniques are much more adept at obtaining the desired results than others, and care should be exercised in your choice of a practitioner.
These techniques are not limited to the elimination of simple allergies like dairy, strawberries, pineapple, dust, animal dander, and the like - the implications go far beyond that. Practitioners of these techniques have observed that when an individual suffering from the flu, for example, that person's immune system targets the specific pathogen mutation directly, and the symptoms abate faster and more effectively than if the person had been given a flu shot. It is obvious then, that the immune response to pathogens is a similar process to what has been referred to in the past as an "allergic" reaction. Further, the auto-immune factors can be isolated, tested, and also treated (particularly using Bio-SET technique) so that the immune system is no longer attacking the healthy cells, tissues, organs, and systems of the body. The result of these courses of treatments is the eradication of the "disease" - or, dare I say it???? Yes, a CURE !!!!!
Assuming this "ALLERGY MODEL OF DISEASE" has any validity at all, what do you think would happen in a person who does have an allergy to their own blood? Their own colon? Their own digestive enzymes? What about their own hormones? Or even their own DNA or the neuro-transmitters of the brain? Multiple and severe allergies, Chron's disease, gastritis, pre-menstrual syndrome, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, and even narcolepsy all have been linked to allergies to some of these things.
The immune system is complex, and NONE of these reactions occur totally isolated from any other reaction. In fact, there usually is a cascade effect - when there is an allergic reaction to one thing, this usually triggers reactions to a whole host of other abnormal reactions in compensation. In other words, eliminating the allergic reaction to fatty acids does not cure Multiple Sclerosis, but a fatty acid allergy will be a part of the entire picture. This is why the prioritized, scientific allergy elimination system known as "Bio-SET" is preferred. The practitioner tests and treats in a logical sequence starting with the most significant immune system glitches first. The order is something like this: Blood, Organs, Glands, Systems, Digestive Enzymes, DNA, RNA, Fatty Acids, Amino Acids, Vitamins, Minerals, Hormones, and Neurotransmitters. After these intrinsic factors and the basic building blocks of nutrition (required for tissue healing) are treated, other allergic factors are then addressed, such as different meats, fruits, vegetables, pollens, grasses, dust, animal dander, or whatever. Some people have allergies and sensitivities to literally hundreds of different things. Treated more or less randomly, the treatments could just go on and on, but addressed in a logical, sequential method they actually begin to get corrected by complete groups instead of by each item. In other words, when the treatment for fruits has come into priority, usually allergies to ALL fruits can be treated in a single treatment. Done randomly, sometimes an individual might need to be treated for literally dozens of different fruits one at a time.
Sometimes when a person is treated for peanut butter, they become desensitized to any and all peanut butters. Sometimes the treatment is specific for that particular brand of peanut butter. This has commonly been an issue when treating for sensitivities for wine. Sometimes a treatment for red wine or white wine is sufficient, and sometimes a person has to be treated for the precise wine (including even the year) in order to remove the sensitivity. Such idiosyncrasies exist within the model, and can be worked through when addressed. For the most part, this new paradigm is very effective - even for many diseases formerly thought to be "incurable". Perhaps the best testimony on behalf of this new model of health and healing is this: IT IS NOT ONLY EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE, IT IS ABSOLUTELY SAFE!
