One near financial disaster happened when Questing Marilyn: In Search of My Holy Grail, Personal Growth Through Travel, my first non-fiction book that follows a tour to sacred and historical sites in England and Ireland came out with flaws. I had a local printer print several thousand copies for me and had Booksurge print copies as ordered in their international locations including Australia, Spain, UK, Netherlands, US and Canada. This gave me a distributor in each of the countries.
Amazon bought Booksurge and closed all but the US company shutting down my international suppliers. All books had to be printed in and shipped from the US so shipping made the cost high. They also removed the Ebook version from their offering.
Needless to say the cost to me was substantial. I then had the book reedited and new reprinted copies are available. That's one advantage with digital printing every copy ordered after the changes in files have all the corrections.
I was stuck with a lot of unacceptable books as the font wasn't embedded by the designer so several chapters came out looking different than the rest. I saw this in the Preface but not in the other chapters when I proofed the printer proof. I though it wouldn't matter much in the Preface. Many readers commented on the errors.
I decided to give away the problem copies free with a sticker that calls them promo copies to charities, fund raisers and with a bought copy of my second book when it was bought through my web site. I sure have had a lot of grateful people - even one woman who told me it was the first adult book she ever owned.
I have struggled to get my book on Kindle but as a Canadian I can't qualify. But just now I am extremely excited to let you know of my new global presence!
Mobipocket is based out of France and this means that after many edits and improvements and the help of so many talented people Questing Marilyn is available as an Ebook so I am global!
