The First Eons Picnic SKIT was a lot of fun. The sky was blue, the sun was shining, and a gentle breeze blew. This after days of rain, rain, rain. It's all in the timing, huh? Partying with us were the Eons Team and ... jack02138, LadyLilac49, LadyLilac49’s guest, LiveNKickin, LiveNKickin's guest Doug, Lynne, Reed, Skyleah, susan7, Varsha, Varsha’s guest Jim. It was so fun when I took off my big sunglasses that were hiding my blue glasses and Varsha said, "oh, it really is you, Suzy! I wasn't sure you were a real person!" Well, yes I am.
I was very nervous because Tex and his Beantown Cowboys were late! Oh, my. "The traffic is awful," they called to say. Well... it's Boston, of course the traffic's awful! So, we played some golf on the sidewalk and cobblestones and looked at all the Profile pages up on the wall, giving us all a little insight into each other's identity. We had such fun connecting names with faces and facts. Here are some interesting facts we learned about our members who joined us:
Some drove in from Western New York State.
One had joined us for the Eons Town Meeting back in October ’06.
One is a professional musician/composer.
One is an architect.
One works for HeadStart.
Some own a travel agency.
Some used to work for Eons.
When Tex and his boys arrived, they got things set up and the grill cranking. Out came the chips and dip. While they were cooking, Jeff Taylor welcomed everyone, talked a little bit about Eons, and encouraged our guests to share feedback with him and the rest of the Eons Team -- we got a lot of good ideas and feedback. About that time, everyone was getting pretty hungry -- so we headed over to the BBQ Express tent and loaded up our plates with dogs, burgers (veggie burgers, too), beans, potato salad, garden salad, and...brownies. Yum!
While we ate, Pdog's a Capella group, Custom Blend, sang some wonderful oldies for us, including "Up on the Roof," "Java Jive," "Blue Moon," and more. They were awesome. The group included: Bill Duvel, Calliope08, Keith Daniel, LeadingMan, Rachel Gerhardt, SherryRyder, and Tom Ryder. The patrons at the Navy Yard Bistro restaurant on the corner who were sitting outside LOVED the singing, too. Boom boom boom!
After dinner and singing, CommunityGal and DesignerGal took our guests upstairs for a tour of the Eons Office. While upstairs, DesignerGal led them in a couple rounds of Eons mad libs -- too funny!
Each of our guests left with an Eons mug filled with a mousepad, bumper sticker and cards. Thank you, thank you, everyone. Hope more of you can make it to our party next year.
