The other day my daughter and I were folding clothes from the laundry when all of a sudden an “oldie but goodie” came on the radio.
“Ooh, baby, baby
Where did our love go?
Ooh, don't you want me
Don't you want me no more…”
If you’re a baby boomer you know the song made famous by the Supremes. Immediately the song took me back to my childhood and the days when my next door neighbors and I would imitate Diana, Mary and Flo in the middle of our street. Of course, I was always Diana because I was the oldest and just knew I could sing and Loretta and Lynetta were my background vocals.
I don’t know if this is an ethnic thing or not, but when we did our thing we had to have towels on our heads. That was to simulate our long flowing hair because you had to have long flowing hair as a singer. Our hair was always in braids and we wouldn’t dare take those braids loose for fear of the pain of having them re-braided and the pain we would feel on our behinds for doing something we weren’t supposed to.
As I continued to fold my own towels, I turned up the radio a little louder (the very thing I tell my daughter NOT to do) and I wailed my heart out—remembering a time and place where it was so much fun to be a little girl who dreamed of being a “Supreme.” I also couldn't resist getting my teenage daughter in on the act so we threw towels on our heads as I took a trip down memory lane.
That experience was a reminder of how good it was to be a child growing up when I did. No cares---no worries. Just plenty of laughter, good music and a whole lot of singing!
I carry the "oldies but goodies" forever in my heart.

I don't think that I danced with a towel on my head, but in our house I have fun with my 2 kittens and my dog Buddy while I am folding warm towels from the dryer on my bed. They just love the clean, toasty laundry, and I love to have them happy.
Now, as far as singing to the oldies?? So much fun! Dancing and singing into my hairbrush. LOL
Take Care,
Sally

And, donalea, yup... me and my two older sisters worn either crinolines OR silky half slips for our versions of long down hair! It was one of the fun things we did, when we played dress-up!

I often wonder what people would think though if they happened by and saw me dancing around, covered in paint and singing to myself - I listen on my mp3 player with headphones - probably look like a madwoman!

You were my first love
And you'll be my last love
I will never make you blue
I'll be true to you
I just knew I was good because I knew all the words of the song. LOL.
