Eons Gains Momentum as It Transforms How Americans Pay Tribute to Their Loved Ones
Alliance with International Order of the Golden Rule enables 1,000 member funeral homes to offer families access to Eons Obits, the nation’s largest free online obituary database
Charlestown Navy Yard, Boston – Oct. 18, 2006 – In an alliance that extends its leadership in transforming how Americans remember and celebrate the lives of their loved ones, Eons, the 50-plus media company for boomers and seniors created by Monster.com founder Jeff Taylor, today announced a partnership with the International Order of the Golden Rule (OGR).
Through the partnership, over 1,000 independent, locally owned Golden Rule funeral homes will be able to offer their customers access to the Eons Obits network, the largest free online obituary database in the United States, providing their families with a deeper, richer way to create lasting tributes.
“OGR is among a growing number of partners in the funeral industry joining Eons to harness the power of the Internet and create a better way for Americans to celebrate and remember their loved ones,” said Taylor, founder and CEO of Eons. “Eons is bringing back the beauty of obituaries past, liberating them from the limitations of a few paragraphs in newsprint and providing Americans with easy-to-use, Web-based tools that let them capture their loved ones’ life stories through writing, photos, multimedia content and more. We live in a mobile society where people don’t receive local news in one place, so there remains a tremendous need and desire for people to quickly learn about a death, and then commemorate that loved one, acquaintance, classmate or fellow veteran, wherever they are. Eons Obits makes that happen.”
Eons Obits, which is accessible at www.eonsobits.com, offers real-time obituary posting capability, instantaneously informing the Eons community of a death. Eons Obits offers a meeting place where members can recall stories, share photos, offer charitable donations according to a loved one’s wishes, and console one another. Eons can even be used to instantly notify friends and loved ones, via e-mail, of a death.
“Our families are bringing multimedia to funerals and memorial services, including photos, video material and music that has meaning to them and their loved ones,” said William A. Edmunds, Executive Director of OGR. “Eons Obits is a resource that enables families not only to more fully create a remembrance of their loved one, but also to offer that experience to those who could not be present at that service itself.”
Through the partnership, Golden Rule funeral homes will be able to offer their client families an interactive outlet for the celebration of a loved one’s life, and a way to make a lasting tribute to someone who has changed their lives. Additionally, member funeral homes can offer value-added services such as links to their Web sites, maps and directions to their funeral homes, and other educational tools.
Edmunds added, “Jeff Taylor is bringing into the 21st century the tools that will allow families, friends and relatives to create genealogies — lasting tributes — so people can learn and remember who a person really was.”
OGR is the second funeral home association to partner with Eons, with more than 2,500 funeral homes now offering Eons Obits memorials to their client families.
