Jeff Taylor, Founder of Monster.Com to Launch Eons, a New Company Focused on the 50+ Market
Raises $10m in Series A Financing From General Catalyst Partners and Sequoia Capital
Charlestown Navy Yard, BOSTON - April 3, 2006 - Eons, Inc., a 50+ media company inspiring a generation of boomers and seniors to live the biggest life possible, has secured $10 million in Series A financing, from General Catalyst Partners and Sequoia Capital. Jeff Taylor, founder of Monster.com, is the founder and CEO of Eons which will launch in July 2006.
The Eons generation is comprised of independent thinkers and innovators, who collectively have an estimated $1 trillion in disposable income. “The market for 50+ is growing at an unprecedented pace, with 77 million baby boomers who just started turning 60 in 2006,” said David Fialkow, managing director, General Catalyst Partners. “Jeff Taylor has tremendous vision and proven success at building successful companies that challenge traditional business models. We are thrilled to partner with him and his team to build Eons into a household name.”
“Let's live to be 100 (or die trying),” challenges Jeff Taylor.
“The next generation of older Americans has not been scarred by the Depression, constricted by a cold war or terrified by apocalyptic nightmares. These are the people who listened to Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix, rooted for Joe Namath and Muhammed Ali, and grew up with Paul Newman and Jane Fonda. The Eons generation was born in black and white and will go out in full-blown, high-definition color. Eons will appeal to the generation who will do more living, playing, working, traveling and spending than the youth of any previous time,” said Michael Moritz, partner with Sequoia Capital.
