EONS COMMUNITY GUIDELINES & RULES OF CONDUCT

Eons Community Guidelines

(See below for Eons Rules of Conduct—the do's and don'ts of using the Eons site to the fullest and safest!)

The following community guidelines are here to help you understand what it means to be part of the Eons community and are intended to help make Eons a place where everyone feels welcome, safe and respected. Keep in mind your use of Eons is subject to both these guidelines, the Eons Rules of Conduct and the Eons Terms of Use (TOU).

Play nice.

Be safe.

Report inappropriate content.

Play nice.

Don't disrespect others.
It's simple—be nice to others. We are a community of many types of people and you are bound to see content you don't agree with or come across members you don't see eye to eye with. If you see something you are unable to relate to, move on. If you become part of a disagreement or debate with another member, be polite. If a healthy discussion becomes too heated (where members are attacking one another or insulting one another) the discussion should end. If you happen upon a "troll" (a member who posts for the sole purpose of instigating trouble) do not post replies to them, accuse them of trolling, or try to publicly "out" them. Avoid engaging in problem discussions.
Don't personally attack others or gang up.
It's sometimes tempting to cross the line during conflict and stop talking about the topic at hand and instead talk about the people involved. Don't do it. Don't name-call or post inflammatory and hateful content. Don't harass other members and don't tell your Friends to harass other members either. Harassment and any other behavior or activity that amounts to cyber-bullying as determined by Eons team will absolutely not be tolerated.
Don't vent your frustrations or rant.
Eons is not a venue for you to harass, abuse, impersonate, or intimidate others. Don't "drag" issues and/or disagreements from one area of Eons to another. Problems or debates that occur in a Group should stay in that Group. Again, be respectful and keep incendiary comments off of Eons.
Don't post content containing hate speech.
Slurs and attacks aimed at any race, color, religion, disability or sexual orientation are not allowed on Eons. The community is open to the free exchange of ideas, including politics and religion; however, you may not attack the beliefs, ideals, or choices of other members. Do not tell other members how wrong they are, how they should live, or how they should believe. Hate speech and any other behavior that amounts to cyber-bullying as determined by EonsTeam will not be tolerated on Eons.
Don't post nudity or explicit content.
Explicit or vulgar language and photos are not permitted. Photos that contain nudity, graphic depictions, or sexually explicit material are not allowed and will be removed. This category includes depictions of violence and gore, or any discourse of a violent nature. If the appropriateness of a photo is questionable, we will err on the side of caution and safety and delete the photo. If you wouldn't say it or show it in public, then it probably does not belong on Eons.

A great rule of thumb for this category of don'ts: Before you post the item, ask yourself, is it something you would feel comfortable showing, telling, or explaining to your grandmother—or to your grandchild?

Don't use Eons for commercial or advertising purposes.
It is not acceptable on Eons to ask another member for money, goods or services. Commercial use of Eons must be approved by Eons. Only post about your outside business or agency in designated areas.

It is not okay to post or Private Message content clearly meant only to solicit others for personal and financial gain. Pyramid schemes and other unethical business schemes are prohibited.

The only places on Eons where it is acceptable to post about your legitimate outside business or agency are:
  • In your Eons Profile—as a reference to describe who you are. No links to other commercial websites are allowed without specific permission from Eons
  • In your Blog—as a reference to describe who you are. No links to other commercial websites are allowed without specific permission from Eons
  • In Groups that allow this such as the Eons Marketplace or for authors, Eons Book Gallery
  • In messages to members who have explicitly asked for information
Don't do anything criminal or illegal on Eons.
Members of Eons are not above the law so don't post content that violates your country, state, province, or city law. Don't entice others to share personal information or violate copyrighted content. Don't threaten, harass, impersonate, or do this to harm others.
Don't misuse Eons.
Don't create multiple accounts to violate these guidelines or the Eons Terms of Use. Don't post links to sites that contain viruses or that interfere with Eons. Don't post the same thing over and over or spam in any other way. Don't post or Private Message unsolicited content to multiple recipients. Don't post links from any site that may be a competitor of Eons. Don't block ads on Eons—advertising revenues fund the site. Blocking ads can be compared to stealing.

Be safe.

Recognize that Eons is an open community.
The messages posted in our community areas are the opinions, ideas, and stories of other members. Groups are run by the members who started them, not Eons. Please do not substitute anything you read on Eons for the advice of your doctor, healthcare professional, attorney, or legal professional.
Be cautious in meeting offline.
There are times when members of the Eons community make plans to meet offline. When using Eons or any site on the Internet to communicate with someone, there's no sure way to know for sure that they are who they say they are. So keep this in mind if before you disclose any personal information or if you choose to set up a meeting with another member. Pick a public place where there are a lot of people around and arrange to meet there. Offline member events may not be sponsored by Eons and you take part in them at your own risk.
Don't share your personal information.
Be cautious when connecting with others on Eons or anywhere online. Remember that a lot of the Eons community such as blogs and Public Groups are viewable by anyone. Much of Eons public content may come up on Google and other Internet searches. Please keep this in mind when posting content. Don't provide your personal information including your outside email address or phone number. Understand that connecting with someone in Eons Groups or exchanging Private Messages on Eons with someone does not mean you now "know" them. Be cautious and keep email communications on Eons via Private Messages.
Don't share personal information about anyone else.
Post content that either you created or that you have authorization to publish. Don't post something that isn't yours without permission. Never post private messages publicly or disclose private message content in any way. If you see content that you suspect as either private or copyrighted, don't assume that this is malicious. Instead, contact the member who posted the content politely and ask them to remove it or consider reporting it to the Eons Help Team.

Report inappropriate content.

Report inappropriate content.
Eons is an open community and we do not look at every post, photo, or comment made on the site nor do we guarantee the integrity of every member. Because of this, you may see things on Eons that you don't like. If you see something that you think either violates any of the guidelines above or the Terms of Use, please use the flag as inappropriate link which automatically reports it to the Eons Team for review and appropriate action/response.

When something is reviewed by the Eons Team and we believe it violates our guidelines or the Eons Terms of Use, we will take action. It is our sole decision if something has violated our guidelines or the Eons Terms of Use and up to our sole discretion as to what action we feel is appropriate. These actions include removing content, warning members, suspending accounts or any action we deem necessary to maintain the integrity of the Eons community. Please let us handle the situation and don't post about your suspicions and grievances. We may not always be able to explain our actions or provide you with all the details that we base our decisions upon, but rest assured we don't take these matters lightly.

  • Exceed the scope of the services that you have signed up for; for example, accessing and using features that you do not have a right to use or deleting, adding to or otherwise changing other people's entries or other Member Content when you have not been granted the privileges to do so; or
  • Allow usage by others in such a way as to violate Eons' TOU.

You may not, except with Eons' express advance authorization or in a specially designated area (e.g., RLGs, account settings), use the Website to:

  • upload, post, email or otherwise transmit any Member Content that provides any telephone numbers, street addresses, last names, URLs or email address;
  • engage in commercial activities within restricted community spaces on Eons (such as by advertising or selling products or services outside of the Eons Marketplace - http://www.eons.com/groups/group/eons-marketplace including those of an individual representing themselves as a product and/or service - or inducing Registered Members, Guests and Visitors to the Website to enroll in a promotional or money-making enterprise); or
  • solicit donations for any purpose.

Registered HQ Members may provide services to Registered Members, and may engage in commercial activities solely on their respective profiles, including advertising, promoting, or selling products or services, so long as such activities adhere to these Rules of Conduct and TOU, and are not competitive with Eons products and services (as determined by Eons in its sole discretion).

Although Eons provides rules of conduct for Members and Users of the Website, Eons does not control and is not responsible for Members' and Users' activities regarding the Website. Eons assumes no responsibility for monitoring Member Content or conduct that may violate these TOU, including these Rules of Conduct. With regard to any third party rights, Eons relies on Members' representations that they are either the creator of Member Content or have authorization to distribute it. If at any time Eons chooses, in its sole discretion, to monitor or investigate any Member Content or conduct, Eons nonetheless assumes no responsibility for such Member Content or conduct, and no obligation to modify or remove any Member Content or take action with regard to such Member.
